BREAKING NEWS | MALEMA APPEALS PRISON SENTENCE

KUGOMPO CITY - The legal representative of Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has described the 5 year imprisonment sentence imposed on its client by the East London Magistrate’s Court as shocking and inappropriate.

Soon after the court made its ruling earlier today, Malema's legal representatives made an application for leave to appeal the decision before the same court.

Advocate Laurence Hodes says the court failed to take into account that Malema has led a blameless life and has not committed any other offences.

The state prosecution has rejected the application saying there are no prospects of success.

The appeal matter has commenced in the same court at 12 : 30 today.
