vocacy; dialogues and more......

The programme also links with agendas at regional and international platforms, including the African Union, UN Women, UNIFEM and UNGASS amongst others. is to create visible change in the lives of young women and girls, as they take charge of their sexual and reproductive health, and subsequently reducing risk and vulnerability related to HIV; and zero tolerance to violence. You are welcome to suggest additional creative strategies for integration into the YWF!

Call for Articles for Young Women First! Newsletter

The Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS) newsletter Young Women First! aims to provide relevant, simple and accessible information on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for young women and girls (aged 15-24 years) in southern Africa. The newsletter seeks to empower young women to make good decisions about their lives by providing them with a platform to ask questions, develop solutions and air their views around various issues regarding empowerment. Young Women First! magazine invites articles for the next issue of the magazine, which targets:
• Young women working in the empowerment sector
• Young women in universities in the region.
• Young women who have achieved their goals.
• Community based organisations
• Leaders in schools
Areas of primary interest are:
• Empowerment of girls and women
• Sexual and reproductive health and rights
• Human rights
• HIV and AIDS
Articles should focus primarily on southern Africa. However, topics of international interest may also be submitted. In the selection of articles, SAfAIDS will place an emphasis on empowerment, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and education of young women as crosscutting issues.

Features to be included in the newsletter will be analytical articles focusing on:
• How they can generate their own income
• Sexual and Reproductive and Health Rights
• Human rights and their relevance to their lives
• HIV and AIDS and the stigma associated with it
Articles, in English, can be sent together with good photographs and should be a maximum of 1,500 words. Please avoid scientific language for the sake of our general readership. The deadline for submission of articles for the next issue is August 10 2012.

SAfAIDS Young Women Leadership (YWL) Programme
“Nurturing young women to become leaders and champions of HIV and SRHR”.

SAfAIDS has embarked on 2 year Young Women Leadership (YWL) training programme with 9 young women and girls between the ages of 18-24years. This programme seeks to groom and nurture the young women and girls from Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe to become champions and leaders in SRHR, HIV, LGBTI and GBV. The candidates consist of vibrant, intelligent and motivated young women, each with unique backgrounds. The programme has a 3 tier training approach consisting of 2 exhilarating and informative training modules followed by a practical skills building module, to transform the young women into effective champions and advocates for SRHR awareness raising in their respective communities and countries. The first inspirational training was held from the 27th of February – 2 March 2012 in Pretoria, South Africa. And the second training is now being held from the 23rd to 29 April 2012, in Johannesburg, South Africa. Call for Applications: National AIDS council Youth Internship Programme

Are you young and innovative? Do you have a passion for excellence and really want to affect your generation for good? If yes, here is an opportunity of a life time.

With support from UNFPA, National AIDS Council, Zimbabwe now has an opening for two (2) youth volunteers to join its Youth Internship Programme.

NAC youth internship programme aims at creating opportunities for youth leadership in responding to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It identifies youths with interest and passion, and, by placing them within a 12 months internship based at NAC Head Office in Harare, with travel to provincial and district offices in the country, provides opportunities for them to channel their energies to creative use and empower them with leadership skills to mobilize their communities in halting AIDS and addressing its impact.

Youth interns will assist programme staff in supporting the young people’s network on HIV and AIDS and other young people related interventions of NAC. The intern would also perform other related tasks including interfacing with the organization's stakeholders. They will be exposed to a variety of skills development and learning opportunities and will be able to grow themselves rapidly in many areas of HIV/AIDS interventions.

They will also be paid a small stipend and provided with a small grant to carry out one youth-focused project/ research during the period of their internship. They will serve for a period of 12 months/one year.

Interested young persons must possess the following:

1. At least two ‘A’ Level passes with English language at ‘O’ Level
2. Ability to communicate fluently in English
3. Must be smart, focused and energetic
4. Must be able to relate well with people
5. Must be aged between 15 and 24 years old
6. Must have experience in HIV and AIDS work
7. Must be able to use Microsoft word, excel, power point and websites
8. Must be good in report writing

SAfAIDS Young Women Leadership (YWL) Training

Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Services (SAfAIDS) is hosting a leadership and advocacy training to build capacity of 9 young women from the following countries: Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe. The purpose of the training is to equip the 9 young women with knowledge and skills necessary to turn them into champions for advocacy and awareness raising on SRHR in their respective communities and countries.

The objectives of the training are to:
• Expose the young women to knowledge, skills and practicum experiences; coupled with mentoring/inspirational and coaching examples of women who have effectively adopted leadership roles in Africa
• Create personality profiles for all the young women and address the gaps identified as a stepping stone to moulding them into capable young leaders able to carry forward their progressive visions.
• Assist the young women to develop personal leadership learning plans for continued leadership growth and rooting their niche within the region as recognised and effective
