OUT LGBT Well-Being

OUT LGBT Well-Being Founded in 1994, OUT Well-being is South Africa’s second-oldest LGBTQ+ organisation.

We provide stigma-free HIV and other health services to gay, bisexual and MSM (men who have sex with men) communities in three regions. We also work to eradicate LGBT+ hate crimes and discrimination while assisting and supporting victims with paralegal advice and referrals.

STIs don’t always come with symptoms. 🩷

You can feel perfectly fine and still have an STI. That’s why regular testing matters — and there’s no shame in getting checked.

+DR in Pretoria provides STI screening and syphilis testing. We also offer Doxy PEP, an antibiotic taken within 72 hours after s*x to drastically lower your chances of catching some STIs.
It's all about helping you stay informed, protected and in control of your s*xual health.

🏳️‍🌈 Creating Safe Spaces in Kwa-Thema: Health, Pride and Safety

On Friday, 28 August, OUT LGBT Well-being partnered with EPOC and Ekurhuleni Pride for a meaningful Pre-Pride Activation in Kwa-Thema.

The engagement brought the LGBTIQ+ community together for open conversations about health, Pride, safety and creating safer communities.

We discussed the realities many LGBTIQ+ people face, including violence, discrimination and hate crimes, as well as knowing our rights, reporting hate crimes and accessing support.

We also shared information on HIV prevention, including Lenacapavir (LEN).

For OUT, Pride is more than celebration. It’s about visibility, dignity, safety, health and the freedom to live openly and authentically.

Our communities deserve more than spaces to celebrate. We deserve spaces where we are safe.

Undetectable = Untransmittable ❤️🏳️‍🌈

Taking your ARVs every day helps keep you healthy and, when you achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load, HIV cannot be s*xually transmitted. That’s the power of U=U. ✨

If you’ve stopped taking your treatment, missed doses, or need support getting back on ARVs, you’re not alone. OUT is here to help you get back on track with confidential, friendly support.

💊 Stay on treatment. Protect your health. Live confidently.

🌍 Bom dia from Rio de Janeiro! 🇧🇷

OUT LGBT Well-being's Executive Director, Dawie Nel, and consultant Dr Mariette Slabbert are attending AIDS 2026, the 26th International AIDS Conference.

They're presenting OUT's groundbreaking work on improving HIV retention among men who have s*x with men (MSM) who engage in chems*x, sharing evidence from the organisation's Elton John AIDS Foundation-funded community-based chems*x programme in Soweto.

AIDS 2026 brings together thousands of researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers and community leaders from around the world. It's an important opportunity for OUT to showcase South African innovation, exchange knowledge, and stay at the forefront of the global effort to end HIV.
