Join renowned Italian novelist, playwright and essayist Alessandro Baricco for an engaging and entertaining journey through opera, with musical examples performed by talented singers from Opera UCT.

🎬 LA GRAZIA — Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film

Italy comes to the big screen with La Grazia, the latest film by acclaimed Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, starring Toni Servillo and Anna Ferzetti.

An intimate and compelling story about love, family, duty, justice and personal responsibility, La Grazia follows Mariano De Santis, the fictional President of the Italian Republic, as he approaches the end of his mandate.

Faced with two requests for presidential pardon, he must navigate difficult questions of justice and compassion — while confronting his own memories, convictions and relationship with his daughter.

Premio “L’innovazione che parla italiano” 2026
Sono aperte le candidature alla nona edizione del Premio “L’innovazione che parla italiano”, promosso dal MAECI in collaborazione con PNICube.
Il premio è rivolto a cittadini italiani fondatori o co-fondatori di startup tecnologiche innovative che operano in Sudafrica, fondate da non più di cinque anni.
La selezione premierà realtà con forte contenuto tecnologico, capacità di innovazione, crescita, competitività e potenziali ricadute positive sull’Italia.
Il vincitore sarà invitato a presentare la propria startup in occasione della Conferenza degli Addetti scientifici, spaziali e degli Esperti agricoli a Reggio Calabria.

🎬✨ A special day of Italian cinema is coming to Joburg, and and you don’t want to miss it.
On September 13th, from 11 AM, the Italian Cultural Institute invites you to Italian Movie Day at Bioscope Independent Cinema, one of Johannesburg’s most beloved independent cinemas and the perfect setting to discover contemporary Italian filmmaking.

Three screenings, three different stories:

🍜 Tre Ciotole (Dir. Isabel Coixet): Based on Michela Murgia’s bestselling novel, a story about a woman who lives life on her own terms, with the quiet urgency that comes with learning not to waste it.
Screening at 11:00 - breakfast included.

🏚️ 5 Secondi (Dir. Paolo Virzì): A gruff, solitary caretaker, a crumbling villa, and a group of students who were never supposed to matter to him. Until one of them did.
Screening at 13:30 - popcorn and drink included.

🎾 Il Maestro (Dir. Andrea Di Stefano): A washed-up tennis coach, a talented teenager, and a road trip along the Italian coast that changes both of them forever.
Screening at 16:00 — popcorn and drink included.

The event is part of Fare Cinema, an initiative by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dedicated to promoting quality Italian cinema abroad.
