🏐When sport meets art, stories travel further.

The match ball from Australia’s 2023 Netball World Cup victory has been given new life through the artistry of legendary South African Ndebele artist Her Royal Highness Dr Gogo Esther Mnguni. The Art Ball was unveiled by High Commissioner Tegan Brink and will be on display at the Ditsong Museum in Pretoria for the next few months. Go check it out.

In 2027, Australia will welcome the world for the Netball World Cup.

🌍📡 Building the next generation of Earth observation leaders in South Africa.
Digital Earth Africa has partnered with Wits - University of the Witwatersrand to train postgraduate students in using Earth observation and AI to monitor vegetation, agriculture and biodiversity.

Through hands-on sessions hosted by Wits’ School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies, students explored Digital Earth Africa’s tools and how Earth observation technology can support decision-making in areas including agriculture and food security, water management, coastal and marine environments, and urbanisation.

The partnership brings Digital Earth Africa’s tools into the classroom, creating new opportunities for postgraduate teaching and applied research, with potential to expand to other South African universities.

SKA Observatory telescopes are now providing Australian scientists with the data to unlock the mysteries of the Universe.

Scientists using CSIRO ’s ASKAP radio telescope have produced the largest magnetic map of the Universe ever made, five times larger than previous efforts and covering nearly four million galaxies. This new magnetic map is opening new possibilities for understanding how galaxies grow, how matter moves through space and how the Universe has evolved.

ASKAP is a precursor to the SKA Observatory telescopes being built in Australia and South Africa, highlighting the strength of our partnership in advancing cutting-edge astronomy and scientific discovery. 🇦🇺📡🇿🇦

A South African artist Werner Bronkhorst is helping tell an Australian story through one of the world’s most iconic cars. 🇿🇦 🇦🇺

Bronkhorst has collaborated with Porsche Australia to design a bespoke 911 Turbo S celebrating 75 years of Porsche in Australia.

The “Land Down Under” features colours, materials and artistic details inspired by Australia’s landscapes, wildlife and cultural identity – including Bronkhorst’s distinctive artistic style.

It’s an interesting example of the creative connections between Australia and South Africa, and how artists can bring different cultures, landscapes and stories together through their work.
