MISA CEO LEADS HIGHLEVEL ENGAGEMENT ON THE EASTERN SEABOARD DEVELOPMENT AT THE ENLIT AFRICA CONFERENCE

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA), Ms Mapatane Kgomo, led a high-level delegation at the Enlit Africa 2026 Conference held from 19 to 21 May 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Addressing delegates at the conference, Ms Kgomo reaffirmed government’s commitment to coordinated infrastructure planning, improved service delivery, and sustainable regional development.

Ms Kgomo highlighted the strategic importance of the Eastern Seaboard Development (ESD) Programme in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening energy security through targeted infrastructure investment.

The ESD is a government-led initiative aimed at transforming the underdeveloped coastal corridor spanning parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal into a modern and economically vibrant region. The programme covers four district municipalities: Ugu and Harry Gwala in KwaZulu-Natal, as well as Alfred Nzo and OR Tambo in the Eastern Cape.

She further noted that the region’s potential in ports development, industrial zones, and renewable energy presents significant opportunities for growth in the construction, manufacturing, logistics, and energy sectors.
Enlit Africa brings together stakeholders from across the continent in the water, power, and energy sectors to engage on challenges and solutions related to infrastructure development, energy access, and sustainability.

MISA’s mandate remains central to the infrastructure support value chain, including the coordination of the Eastern Seaboard Development Programme. The Agency provides technical advice and support to municipalities to strengthen infrastructure planning, implementation, operations and maintenance, as well as institutional capacity building. Through accelerated investment in water, electricity, and transport infrastructure, MISA continues to support municipalities in advancing inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Ms Kgomo said: “When municipalities are equipped with the technical support and infrastructure required to deliver reliable services, we create an enabling environment for businesses to grow, employment opportunities to expand, and communities to access consistent and sustainable energy services.”

MISA Hosts Induction for Western Cape Engineering Graduates

The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) hosted an induction for its newly appointed engineering graduates, under the Young Graduates (YGs) Programme from the Western Cape Province on 20-21 May 2026. The engagement was convened to provide the graduates with a comprehensive overview of MISA’s mandate and to outline clear pathways for professional growth and career progression within the organisation.

Throughout the session, representatives from various directorates delivered presentations to familiarise the graduates with MISA’s structure, core functions, and operational frameworks. The presentations offered practical insight into how the organisation supports municipalities and delivers on its infrastructure mandate. YGs also got a chance to engage and share their views on how they can contribute and engage with the organisation holistically.

The induction reaffirmed MISA’s commitment to strengthening municipal technical capacity by equipping young engineers with the knowledge and support needed to contribute effectively to infrastructure delivery. By aligning graduates with the organisation’s mandate, MISA aims to build a pipeline of skilled professionals capable of driving sustainable service delivery across the Western Cape and beyond.
