United Nations in South Africa

United Nations in South Africa Behind every global goal is a local story.

We work with media, civil society, educators and governments to bring the United Nations closer to the people it serves — in South Africa, across the region and around the world.

"On International Albinism Awareness Day, we celebrate the beauty of diversity and reaffirm our commitment to a South Africa where persons with albinism are respected, protected, and empowered to thrive.

Let us reject discrimination, embrace inclusion, and build a society where every person can proudly live in their own skin."
— Minister Steve Letsike

The Honourable Minister joined the United Nations, the National Albinism Task Force to commemorate this day at📍 Philadelphia School, Pretoria.

Too many young people are navigating childhood and adolescence under the weight of bullying — in schools, in communities and increasingly online. What is often dismissed as a normal part of growing up is, in fact, one of the most significant risk factors for anxiety, depression and long-term psychological harm in children and young people.

The United Nations in South Africa, as part of the broader UN family's commitment to children's rights and sustainable development, is raising its voice clearly: bullying is not acceptable and it is not inevitable. Protecting the mental health of our children is protecting the future of this country. Every adult, every institution and every community has a role to play.

Across the world, 138 million children are trapped in child labour—denied school, stolen time, blocked futures. They could be studying, playing with friends, dreaming of what comes next. Instead, they're working in conditions that rob them of their potential.

This week, governments, employers, civil society leaders, athletes and ordinary people are joining the Red Card campaign. By raising a simple red card, they're saying no to child labour and yes to protecting every child's right to education and safety.

The red card has become the global symbol of collective action. If you're ready to be part of the movement, we invite you to join. Print or grab a red card, take a photo and share it with . Every voice matters. Every action counts.
