Ever wondered how many types of audit opinions the AGSA issues?

The AGSA issues five types of audit opinions:
* Unqualified with no findings (clean audit)
* Unqualified with findings
* Qualified audit opinion
* Adverse audit opinion
* Disclaimer of audit opinion

From a clean audit to a disclaimer, every audit outcome tells a story of how a public institution has managed its finances, reports on its performance and complied with the applicable legislation and regulations. Listen on air as we unpack what each audit opinions means. SABC Education

The Eastern Cape PFMA 2025-26 engagement marked Heritage Month while celebrating the AGSA’s 115-year legacy.

Dr Thami Zikode highlighted the importance of protecting the gains made and ensuring they translate into lasting progress for citizens.

“The picture looks promising, with fruitful engagement across the accountability ecosystem and stakeholders hearing our insights. Now, let’s ensure these gains are also experienced by citizens by strengthening the link between audit outcomes and their lived experiences”, Dr Thami Zikode.

During the session with the Eastern Cape team, AG Tsakani Maluleke recognised the team’s work throughout the audit cycle and progress in implementing the organisation’s Culture Shift Strategy, particularly in strengthening influence and enforcement.

Key takeaways:
- Better audit insights and stronger oversight can strengthen the accountability ecosystem, enabling institutions to deliver on their mandates and drive positive change.

- Strong institutional capacity and a culture of good governance support consistent and sustainable improvements in public sector performance.

- Audit outcomes must resonate with citizens’ lived realities, connecting what audits find to tangible improvements in the lives of people across the province.
