What do José de San Martín, a robot, and Johannesburg have in common?

More than two centuries after the legendary Crossing of the Andes—a feat that marked a decisive chapter in South America’s struggle for independence—Guanaquerx, a revolutionary robot accompanied by its insurgent army of artists, engineers, and baqueanos, crossed the Andes once again to recreate San Martín’s historic journey.

Guanaquerx is the work of Argentine artist Paula Gaetano Adi, reimagining the Crossing of the Andes through art, robotics, and technology. The installation connects the nineteenth-century liberation campaign with new ways of thinking about the present and the future.

The work is part of Reverse Futures, the new exhibition at the Johannesburg Contemporary Art Foundation (JCAF), which brings together international artists to explore possible futures from a range of perspectives.

If you’re in Johannesburg, admission is free, and visits are available by guided tour only, with advance booking through the JCAF website.

Más de dos siglos después de la hazaña del Cruce de los Andes, que abrió un capítulo decisivo en la lucha por la independencia de América del Sur, Guanaquerx, un robot revolucionario acompañado por su ejército insurgente de artistas, ingenieros y baqueanos, volvió a atravesar la cordillera para recrear la histórica odisea sanmartiniana.

Guanaquerx es la impactante obra de la artista argentina Paula Gaetano Adi, una propuesta que reimagina el Cruce de los Andes desde el arte, la robótica y la tecnología, conectando aquella gesta del siglo XIX con nuevas formas de pensar el presente y el futuro.

La obra forma parte de Reverse Futures, la nueva exposición de la Johannesburg Contemporary Art Foundation (JCAF), que reúne a artistas internacionales para explorar futuros posibles desde distintas perspectivas.

🏫 Participation in an MBA Class on the Argentine Economy at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS)

We participated in an MBA class on the Argentine economy as part of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), the business school of the University of Pretoria.

The session formed part of a course taught by Professor Lyal White, focusing on international case studies in economic development.

During the class, we had an engaging exchange with students on Argentina’s macroeconomic reform process and the challenge of building competitiveness through stabilization and deregulation. Participants’ questions focused on recent economic developments, the business environment in Argentina, and the country’s historical and institutional context.

Participamos en una clase sobre economía argentina del programa de Maestría en Administración de Empresas (MBA) del Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), escuela de negocios de la Universidad de Pretoria.

La actividad formó parte de un curso a cargo del profesor Lyal White, dedicado al análisis de casos internacionales de desarrollo económico.

Allí, mantuvimos un intercambio constante con los estudiantes en torno al proceso argentino de reformas macroeconómicas y al desafío de construir competitividad a partir de la estabilización y la desregulación. Las preguntas de los participantes se centraron en la evolución reciente de la economía, el clima de negocios en nuestro país y aspectos históricos e institucionales de la Argentina.

Entrepreneurship at GIBS

We met with South Africa’s newly appointed Minister of Agriculture, Willie Aucamp. We discussed the bilateral sanitary agenda and the next steps to safeguard and expand trade in agricultural and livestock products between our two countries.

Discussions also continued on cooperation in the fight against foot-and-mouth disease, with the Minister, his team, and representatives of the Argentine company Biogénesis Bagó reviewing the progress made so far and the opportunities created by the new policies opening vaccine importation and distribution to the private sector.

Nos reunimos con el recientemente designado Ministro de Agricultura de Sudáfrica, Willie Aucamp. Abordamos la agenda sanitaria bilateral y los próximos pasos para garantizar y ampliar el comercio de productos del complejo agrícola y ganadero entre ambos países.

También continuaron las conversaciones sobre la cooperación en fiebre aftosa entre el Ministro, su equipo y representantes de la empresa 🇦🇷 Biogénesis Bagó, evaluando los avances registrados hasta el momento y el escenario abierto por las nuevas políticas de apertura hacia el sector privado en la importación y distribución de vacunas.

🇦🇷✈️🌎 Argentina, más cerca de África Austral

Más de 50 agencias de viaje y entidades vinculadas al turismo emisivo de Sudáfrica, Mozambique, Namibia, Mauricio y otros países de la región participaron de una capacitación virtual sobre la oferta turística argentina.

La actividad fue organizada por la Cancillería argentina, a través de la Dirección de Promoción de Exportaciones de Servicios Basados en el Conocimiento, Industrias Creativas, Turismo y Deporte, junto con las Embajadas argentinas en Sudáfrica y Mozambique.

Durante el encuentro se presentaron algunos de los grandes atractivos de nuestro país: naturaleza 🏔️, cultura 🎭, ciudades 🏙️, deportes ⚽, experiencias únicas 📸 y propuestas hoteleras 🏨 para recibir a viajeros de todo el mundo.

More than 50 travel agencies and outbound tourism stakeholders from South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, Mauritius and other countries in the region joined a virtual training session on Argentina’s tourism offer.

The activity was organized by the Argentine Foreign Ministry, through the Directorate for the Promotion of Exports of Knowledge-Based Services, Creative Industries, Tourism and Sports, together with the Embassies of Argentina in South Africa and Mozambique.

The session showcased some of Argentina’s main attractions: nature 🏔️, culture 🎭, cities 🏙️, sports ⚽, unique experiences 📸 and hotel options 🏨 ready to welcome travellers from around the world.
