πŸ’š Welcoming New Voices to the Abba Board

Following our AGM on 27 August 2026, we are delighted to welcome two new members to the Abba Board.

Marilise Viljoen | Board Secretary

A long-standing friend of Abba and former colleague, Marilise brings extensive experience in adoption, together with valuable strengths in fundraising, organisation and relationship-building. We are so pleased to welcome her back to Abba in this new role.

Clifford Appel | Board Member

Clifford brings strong experience in governance, compliance and finance. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen Abba’s organisational sustainability and good governance.

We warmly welcome Marilise and Clifford and look forward to the knowledge, fresh perspectives and commitment they will bring to Abba.

Thank you to our Board, staff, members, partners, donors and supporters for continuing to walk this journey with us.

Together, we remain committed to ensuring that children belong in healthy, stable and permanent families. 🌿

Partnerships create stronger systems of care.

Abba recently had the opportunity to engage with the social work team at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, introducing our organisation, sharing more about our role in child protection and exploring opportunities for collaboration.

Through an interactive session using the Courage Programme, participants discussed child protection challenges, identified barriers to empowerment and explored practical solutions that can be strengthened through collaborative, win-win partnerships.

The session also created an opportunity to address common misconceptions about adoption and the role of adoption organisations, while sharing Abba’s commitment to ethical, child-centred practice.

We are grateful to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital social work team for the meaningful engagement and look forward to working together to strengthen support for vulnerable children and families.

Growing up is about more than getting older...it's about discovering who you are.

For adopted teenagers, questions like "Who am I?", "Where do I come from?" and "Where am I going?" often carry additional layers of identity, belonging, race, grief and life story.

That's why we're launching Growing Up Adopted: a new three-part online series designed to equip adoptive parents with practical tools, deeper understanding and renewed confidence as they navigate the adolescent years alongside their children.

🌿 Part One | Who Am I?
Identity, Belonging & Adolescence

πŸ’» Live Online

Whether you're an adoptive parent, prospective parent or foster parent, we'd love for you to join us.

🎟️ Book a single session or save with a full series pass.

Today, we honour the women whose courage, compassion and care help change the stories of children and families.

To the mothers who make brave decisions, the adoptive and foster mothers who open their hearts, the social workers who walk alongside families, and every woman who helps create a safer future for a child , we see you, and we celebrate you.

Happy Women’s Day from Abba Specialist Adoption & Social Services. πŸ’œ

Today, we honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy and his belief that each of us has the power to make a difference.

At Abba, we see every day how compassion, courage and practical support can bring hope to vulnerable children, families and communities.

This Mandela Day, we invite you to take action in a way that is meaningful to you. Give your time. Share hope. Support someone in need. Use your voice to raise awareness. Encourage others to get involved.

No act of kindness is too small. Together, our actions can create lasting change.

Happy Mandela Day from all of us at Abba.
