With an overwhelming result of 164 votes in favour, 6 abstentions and 1 against (the US), the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/80/L.104, which replaces the Mercator world map with one that more accurately reflects the true size of the continents, particularly Africa.

The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to South Africa deeply mourn the passing, on 29 August 2026, of His Excellency Muzikayifani Khehla Joseph Nkosi, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to the Republic of Chad, former Ambassador to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, comrade and sincere friend of the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people.

We remember him as an exemplary diplomat and a distinguished defender of the principles of international law, respect for the sovereignty and self-determination of peoples, as well as for his outstanding cultural contribution to bilateral cooperation between both nations – merits for which President Nicolás Maduro Moros awarded him the Order of Francisco de Miranda, First Class, on 30 March 2022, in the city of Caracas.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends. May his soul find eternal rest.

On Tuesday, , Ambassador Carlos Feo Acevedo presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Seychelles, His Excellency Patrick Herminie, at the State House in Victoria, the capital, marking the start of his diplomatic mission to that government with the aim of deepening cooperation in bilateral and multilateral areas of mutual interest.
