The Democratic Alliance condemns the unacceptable delay in the start of today's City of Tshwane Council meeting.
DA ward councillors arrived on time and were ready to represent the residents of Tshwane.

However, the meeting could not commence as scheduled due to the absence of the Speaker, while the Acting City Manager failed to ensure that the meeting started on time.

This reflects the ongoing dysfunction and poor governance of the current coalition government, where residents continue to bear the consequences of administrative failures.

The Democratic Alliance believes that accountable leadership begins with professionalism and respect for the institution of Council. We will continue to hold those responsible accountable and fight for a stable, effective municipality that puts the interests of Tshwane's residents first

When Persistence Pays Off
For many months, I have been engaging with the City of Tshwane, Gauteng Roads and other relevant authorities regarding the conditions along Old Johannesburg Road between Escourt Road and Hendrik Verwoerd Drive. Through emails, meetings and ongoing follow-ups, I have continued to push for action because residents deserve clean, safe and well-maintained public spaces.
Last week, I was specifically asked to identify priority areas requiring intervention from the City's Parks and Waste Departments. Once again, I highlighted this stretch of road as a priority while continuing my engagement with Gauteng Roads.
Today, it was encouraging to see a coordinated operation involving Gauteng Roads, the City of Tshwane, SAPS, TMPD and private security companies working together to clean the area and restore order.
This is what the DA means when we say we want a government that works. It means holding every sphere of government accountable, ensuring different departments work together, and staying focused on delivering results for residents.
There is still work to be done, but today's operation is a significant step in the right direction. A sincere thank you to everyone involved for their commitment and hard work.
I will continue to engage, follow up and hold the relevant authorities accountable until this corridor remains clean, safe and properly maintained.

When Does "Temporary" Become Permanent?

This excavation at the corner of Drongo Street and Flufftail is another example of a growing problem across Tshwane.

The City opens excavations to repair infrastructure, but far too often these sites are left unattended for days or even weeks. Residents are then expected to live with the consequences.

These open trenches:

Pose a serious danger to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

Create a risk for children and elderly residents.

Damage pavements and verges.

Become increasingly hazardous after rain or at night when visibility is poor.

Leave residents wondering when, or if, the work will ever be completed.

Temporary barrier tape is not a long-term solution. If work cannot continue immediately, the site should be properly secured, monitored, and repaired within a reasonable timeframe. Leaving excavations open indefinitely is simply not acceptable.

Residents pay for municipal services and have every right to expect repairs to be completed safely, professionally, and without unnecessary delays.

This matter has been reported to the City under reference 6001476789, and I will continue following up until the site has been properly repaired.

This SABC report is a reminder that the City of Tshwane is facing serious service delivery challenges under the current administration.

Regardless of which ward is visited, residents are experiencing the impact of a City that is struggling to deliver basic services.

As a DA ward councillor, my focus is not on looking back or making excuses. My responsibility is to hold the current administration accountable, fight for the residents of Ward 69, and push every day for the services that people pay for and deserve.

Where there are failures, I will continue to raise them. Where there are delays, I will continue to follow up. And where residents need support, I will continue to stand with them.
