Thank you to everyone who supported yesterday's Centurion Recycling Day.

The day was filled with positive community action, with residents coming together to recycle, donate, support local causes, and check their voter registration details.

Highlights included:

✅ Recycling a wide range of items and helping to reduce waste
✅ Donations of clothing and household goods for those in need
✅ Support for the SPCA through donations of food, blankets, and other essential items
✅ Residents checking and updating their voter registration details
✅ Several first-time voters registering to vote ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections

A special thank you to the volunteers, organisers, and residents who contributed their time, donations, and energy to make the day a success.

Centurion continues to demonstrate the value of community involvement and working together to make a difference.

🔹 PSIRA Under Investigation
The DA's call for an investigation into the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) has been granted. The Presidency has announced that the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) will probe the organisation following ongoing governance and performance concerns. The DA has also called for the CEO and CFO to be suspended during the investigation to prevent any potential interference.

🔹 Where Is The Water Crisis Plan?
The Presidency has missed yet another deadline to publicly release the National Water Crisis Action Plan. Despite repeated commitments from President Ramaphosa, and a DA PAIA application submitted in March, the extended deadline of 4 June 2026 has now come and gone without the plan being released. South Africans continue to wait for action on one of the country's most pressing challenges.

🔹 Positive Economic News
In encouraging news, Fitch Ratings has upgraded South Africa's outlook for the first time in 21 years. Fitch noted that South Africa's debt levels are lower than expected and acknowledged progress made through structural reforms that are helping to support economic growth. Fiscal discipline and debt stabilisation have been key priorities championed by the DA within the GNU.

As always, politics affects our daily lives more than many realise – from water infrastructure and security oversight to economic growth and job creation.

🔹 Heart Surgery Death Rate Scandal
The DA has called for an urgent investigation into the shockingly high mortality rate for heart surgery patients at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

DA Shadow MEC for Health, Jack Bloom, says the Gauteng Health Department was forced to admit that previous figures provided were incorrect. The corrected mortality rate now stands at 14%, compared to an international benchmark of around 3%.

The DA is calling for an independent probe into the Cardiothoracic Department and a plan to restore the hospital’s status as a respected training institution.

🧬 DNA Backlogs Undermining Justice
The DA has demanded answers from SAPS management over the ongoing failure to process forensic DNA evidence efficiently.

Only 72% of cases are ever finalised, and fewer than 10% are completed within 35 days.

Every delayed DNA result can mean:
⚠️ Delayed arrests
⚠️ Weaker criminal cases
⚠️ Postponed prosecutions
⚠️ Victims waiting longer for justice

🖥️ ANC-Russia Election Interference Allegations
The DA has formally requested that the IEC investigate allegations that the ANC worked with Russian intelligence operatives to influence South Africa’s 2024 elections.

Reports suggest secret meetings took place between ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula and members of Russia’s foreign intelligence service. Leaked Russian documents allegedly reveal a coordinated cyber-disinformation campaign before the election.

The DA argues that if proven true, this would constitute a serious violation of both the Electoral Act and the Cybercrimes Act.

🗞️ *Former Minister accused of misleading Parliament*

Evidence has emerged that former Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe allegedly misled Parliament regarding the appointment of a Director-General. A forensic report reportedly confirmed that a signature on a controversial five-year contract was hers, despite previous denials. The appointment was allegedly made contrary to Cabinet instructions. Although no longer a Minister, she remains an MP and President of the ANC Women's League.

🗞️ *SCOPA to lay criminal charges against former RAF CEO*

Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) is expected to lay criminal charges against former Road Accident Fund CEO Collins Letsoalo after he failed to appear before an inquiry into the RAF's financial management. The committee had summoned him to account for decisions that contributed to the fund's growing liabilities. Letsoalo reportedly ignored repeated requests to appear and accused the committee of bias.

🗞️ *R**e kit shortages discovered at police stations*

DA Federal Leader Geordin Hill-Lewis recently visited police stations north of Pretoria and found severe shortages of forensic r**e kits—an issue previously identified during DA oversight visits in the Western Cape. These kits are essential for collecting evidence in r**e and sexual offence cases. Without them, investigations are compromised from the very first step. The DA has indicated that public representatives will be visiting police stations across South Africa to assess the extent of the problem.

South Africans deserve a government that is transparent, responsive, and committed to protecting its citizens.
