DIALOGUE | Today Deputy Minister Alvin Botes today joined the Nucleus Institute Seminar on “Middle Power Alignment: South Africa & Canada Perspectives” at The Maslow Hotel, Sandton.

Deputy Minister formed part of the panel discussing“The Perils and Promise of the Middle Power Doctrine: The Political and Diplomatic Perspective”, and he unpacked how South Africa 🇿🇦 leverages multilateralism, strategic non-alignment and to shape a rules-based order.

🚀 LAUNCHING | Today The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Alvin Botes & ICRC Southern Africa join at the Colloquium marking the culmination of the 22nd All Africa Course on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) at the University of Johannesburg in Auckland Park.

The Colloquium focused on South Africa’s role in promoting and developing IHL, the formal launch of the board game “Rapid Response: IHL”, and discussions on the voice of youth, artificial intelligence and Autonomous Weapons Systems.

Conflicts in Africa are affecting millions, yet respect for IHL is under pressure. Traditional IHL teaching is no longer enough when conflicts move faster than classrooms.

Just In: Minister Ronald Lamola spoke to the media about the purpose and outcomes of the Eighth Session of the South Africa-Brazil Joint Commission (JC) which he Co-Chaired with his Brazilian Counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, today in Pretoria. The Joint Commission remains the principal bilateral mechanism for overseeing, reviewing and advancing cooperation under the South Africa-Brazil Strategic Partnership across a broad range of sectors. The Seventh Session, held in Brasília on 23 April 2024, laid the groundwork for enhanced collaboration and implementation of key bilateral priorities.

🇿🇦🇿🇼 | President Cyril Ramaphosa and President Emmerson Mnangagwa today co-chair the 4th Session of the South Africa-Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission (BNC) at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation Headquarters, OR Tambo Building, Pretoria.

The BNC is the highest structured bilateral mechanism between South Africa and Zimbabwe, established in 2015 to strengthen political, economic, social and defence cooperation.

The Heads of State meeting follows the Ministerial Session co-chaired on 20 August 2026 by Minister Ronald Lamola and Minister Prof. Dr Amon Murwira.

🇿🇦🇿🇼 | SA-ZIMBABWE BI-NATIONAL COMMISSION

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Ronald Lamola, today co-chaired the Ministerial Meeting of the 4th Session of the South Africa-Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission (BNC) with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Hon. Prof. Dr Amon Murwira taking place at the OR Tambo Building, Pretoria.

The BNC is the highest structured bilateral mechanism between the two countries, established in 2015 to deepen fraternal relations and enhance cooperation in Political & Diplomatic, Economic, Social, Defence and Security sectors.

South Africa remains Zimbabwe’s largest trading partner, and both countries are committed to moving from agreement to implementation of key projects.

The 46th Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) was held on 17 August 2026 in Durban, Republic of South Africa, under the Chairmanship of His Excellency Mr Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa.

The Summit brought together SADC Heads of State and Government to deliberate on key regional priorities and reaffirm their commitment to advancing regional integration, peace, security, sustainable development and shared prosperity in Southern Africa. Read the full Summit Communiqué:
