Smarter technology. More precise surgery. Better patient outcomes.

U.S. innovations in robotics and artificial intelligence are transforming surgery — helping doctors perform less invasive procedures, detect diseases earlier, and improve recovery times.

From robotic systems that have supported millions of procedures worldwide to AI-powered tools assisting with lung cancer detection and joint replacements, American innovation is helping make healthcare more precise and effective.

These breakthroughs also depend on secure semiconductor and critical-mineral supply chains. Through initiatives like Pax Silica, the United States is working with international partners to strengthen the technologies and supply chains powering the AI revolution.

🇺🇸 Innovation that advances health. Technology that benefits people around the world.

🌍 Celebrating Women's Month: U.S.-South Africa Partnership in Action! 🇺🇸🇿🇦

This Women's Month, we're proud to spotlight two U.S. Embassy Pretoria programs that empowered women, strengthened bilateral ties, and championed economic development through sport and science! 🏉🚀

In July, the Public Diplomacy Section brought inspiring American women to Pretoria to connect with South Africa's next generation of leaders. Following the exciting Women's Eagles vs. Springbok Women games, U.S. Women's National Rugby stars Emily Henrich and Cheta Emba spent a day sharing their expertise with young South African athletes - leading a rugby clinic with the Under-16 Blue Bulls girls team, offering candid career advice to the Blue Bulls Daisies emerging team, and meeting with the University of Pretoria's women's rugby team to talk through what it takes to build a lasting career in professional sports. Two weeks later, in partnership with the Academy of Science of South Africa and Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa, the team welcomed retired NASA astronaut Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger to CSIR, where she shared her inspiring journey from the classroom to space with an audience of students and young professionals eager to learn more about space diplomacy.

Whether on the rugby pitch or in a lecture hall, these American women showed South African audiences - especially young women - the confidence, leadership, and possibility that come from pursuing careers in sport, science, and beyond. Their visits reflect the U.S. Embassy's ongoing commitment to empowering women, deepening the people-to-people ties between our two nations, and fueling the kind of innovation and opportunity that drives economic growth on both sides of the Atlantic. 🤝

The Consulate Durban team visited KZN’s magnificent South Coast to strengthen the economic ties between the United States and Kwa-Zulu Natal.

During the trip, we met with the South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) to explore opportunities to increase trade and encourage U.S. investment, as well as with Ugu Community Radio to connect with local media leaders.

A special thank you to Zodwa Mzindle, Mayor of the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and a proud alum of the U.S. International Visitor Leadership Program, for welcoming us to her region with so much warmth and hospitality. We would also like to thank her for inviting us to the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Awards Ceremony – it was an honor to see the area’s community leaders recognized for their outstanding work!
