PASMA UP

PASMA UP Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania What is PASMA? It was born on the 15 October 1989 in Welgespruit at Roodeport in Gauteng province.

A true Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania member should know and demonstrate the following:

Brief background of PASMA

It is the Pan Africanist Movement of Azania . A revolutionary student movement born on the 19th of June 1997 at the university of Western Cape, Bellville in Cape Town. This followed the demarcation of PASO as the name to be used by the comrades at the secondary level, whil

e the new name PASMA meant and to be used by the comrades at tertiary level. PASO, that PASMA history, pride and its consistent come from what was the product of long and hard organisation and mobilisation under banishment of the early eighties. Among its founders were Cde Lungelo Mbandazayo (Founding President), Cde Lawrence "General Nqandela (Secretary General), Charge –in Mabaso (National Organiser) and other codies who led the PAC Youth Wing-PAYCO. Our ideological convictionsPASMA is guided by the philosophy of Pan Africanism, which is total liberation and unification of the people of Africa and abroad under scientific socialism. This Pan Africanism is guided and rooted in the philosophy of Marxism –Leninism (dialectical materialism , scientific socialism and proletarian internationalism ) which is total liberation of all humanity through the working class revolution and establishment and construction of classless society

Knowing one anotherBuilding the organisation is a process that demands patience, persistence, and especially student organisation because students come and go, and time changes. The starting point of this exercise or process knows our members. This means we need to know who we are, dealing with and this involves all levels of the organisation –from branches to provinces to national. Knowing who we are dealing with, will ensure that we chose the right comrades or people at a right time in a right positions or places. Knowing who each of us is, means knowing where each of us come from and how we come to be where we are. This also includes what we are capable of doing in other words our abilities or skills as well as the type of persons each one of us is. This briefly means knowing the history one of each of us, and old members alike. This will afford or enable the party members or leadership to know or establish if the members or new members is reliable or can be trusted and entrusted. Noble sons and daughters of the soil, this will help the party to identify and isolate opportunist elements who join the party to pursue their personal agendas and endings and the short term goals at the expense of party building and development. A member of PASMASimply being a card-carrying member of PASMA is not sufficient to qualify one as genuine and not committed codre. Card-carrying members must first undergo training so that they can qualify as genuine and committed members of the party or organisation. A genuine and committed member of PASMA attends organisation meetings, events and any call for duty to pursue it, without failure unless enforced by circumstances beyond his/her control. The organisation comes first. The training should ensure that this becomes the culture of the organisation, members should know PASMA that is, its ideology, goals, policies, principles and programmes and be able to articulate them with confidence and clarity. This lack of political and ideological training has resulted in the leadership on the one hand and the membership on the other hand not speaking the same language because of the phenomenon in the same way. Then, to bridge the gap it is necessary that the PASMA initiates political, ideological training issues, affecting the students general and across
the country and in Africa. Ability to work with othersThis is the principle of collective leadership one of the pillars on which the PASMA is founded. It is expected and required that a PASMA member should be able to work within the official structures of the organisation. All genuine members of PASMA is selfless and consult his comrades at all times. Individualism, unilateralism and self-advertisement at the same expense of the organisation should be discouraged. The principle of collective leadership should not only be emphasized in the training of comrades but it must be adhered to and practised in all PASMA meetings.

MEDIA RELEASE STATEMENT...
PASSING OF NEO MORULA (UP EDUCATION STUDENT)
Release date: 2019/09/16

The Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania (PASMA) at University of Pretoria (UP) is saddened by the untimely death of our fellow student, Neo Morula (18) who was a first year Education student at the University of Pretoria.
Neo passed away on Thursday 12 September 2019, at the Festival’s Edge student residence located in Hatfield, a few meters from UP Hatfield campus. We extend our genuine heartfelt condolences to the Morula family and friends. We hope that they, and the UP student populace at large would be bestowed with courage and strength during these trying times.
PASMA recognizes the pressure and the harsh psychological, economic and subsequently physical conditions that we students are exposed to at UP. These harsh conditions do not only affect African [“Black”] students, however with the historical truths experienced by black bodies in this country, these tribulations affect the Africans [Black in particular] severely. In all these challenges, UP does nothing or very little to mitigate them. Neo’s death has reminded us once more that, “Black wo(mxn), you are on your own”.
As per the norms in African tradition which PASMA embraces, we took it upon ourselves to visit the bereaved family in Hammanskraal to offer words of comfort. We did not know Neo nor her family but the unfortunate incident which could have been avoided, by the way, prompted the Africanists to act with empathy. Though the family is still shocked and devastated by the loss of their child, we were received with warm and loving hands.
We have been made aware that Neo made attempts to reach out for help from the dysfunctional Student Counselling Unit (SCU) on campus, but due to the University’s chronic excuses; the appointment was positioned too far. She is not the only one who has been subjected to this madness of SCU, many of our colleagues have and will still be subjected to it if we as students do not act decisively against it.
We are further determined to dispel the false narrative making the rounds around campus and on some online media platforms that Neo was staying at a private residence in Sunnyside. That reporting is deceitful and mischievous, and we reject it with the contempt it deserves.
PASMA has got it on good record that UP has, through an e-mail informed the family that there shall be a memorial service in commemoration of our departed colleague. Knowing the trickery of the university, the details of the memorial service would be kept under wraps in order to avoid what they call “negative publicity”.
For the sake of progress, please see the details of the memorial service below:
Date : 18th September 2019
Venue : Groenkloof Campus
Time : 13:00
We call on all UP community to attend the memorial service in great numbers to commemorate the life of our fellow student. As a sign of respect to the life of Neo we urge everyone to be dressed in all black on the memorial service.
To the Morula family, we once more express our condolences and remind them of the words of comfort delivered by m’Afrika Ndukebandla saying “nothing can separate us with the love of God”. May the soul of the beloved Neo Morula rest in eternal peace. Resurrection Is Promised!
END.

PASMA_UP STATEMENT on 2019 SRC ELECTIONS

Revolutionary greetings to all Africanists, students, supporters and friends of the Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania [PASMA].
First and foremost, PASMA expresses honour and gratitude to all the students who took their precious time from the 26-28 August 2019, to vote for candidates aligned to our philosophy. A non-racial, socialist, humanist, revolutionary and Africanist philosophy. We gain confidence from the support, love and trust that you have shown us. We take your support as a reaffirmation of PASMA’s role in safeguarding the interests of students at this university, where unfortunately “liberal” paradigms of political discourse are the business of the day.
PARTICIPATION IN THE SRC ELECTIONS
The 2019 UP SRC elections are a landmark for PASMA as a student movement, as they are the first since the re-establishment of this revolutionary student movement in this university. Our involvement in the process was not guided by the need to legitimize the system but to enter and expose its cruel nature which is replicated in how students especially African in particular are violated.
Many trials and errors were committed during the cause of the campaign, these are due various reasons however, what is positive out of this exercise is that many students began to understand what PASMA stands for and what it seeks to achieve, contrary to the views that “we are a bunch of Marxists anarchists”.
As mentioned in our manifestos; we still resolute that liberal electoral processes are not a free, fair and credible process. Those in power determine the outcome of the process prior its conclusion. In this instance, that is no different.
INSTITUTIONAL REPRESSION
We are able to confirm to all students, our supporters, voters and friends that the institution, through its arm; the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) and all its subsidiaries unleashed its natural repressive mechanisms towards the progressive and radical ideas. It is not something we were not expecting; they found us waiting for them and we showed them that we are sons and daughters of Africa and we are here to stay. The repression that we experienced is same as that has been experienced by other pan African representatives in this settler colonial state, the African continent and the diaspora.
Going to the elections, we were not oblivious to the fact that the university is hellbent on depoliticising the institution while holding on to the farce of the so called “independent and inclusive” type of student governance. In all reality, we have seen that this SRC elections thingie, is a play and a ploy to micromanage the student structures and maintain the status quo while victimising and oppressing any or all ideas which have the best interests of students.
The university through the mantshingilanism phenomenon, has managed to infiltrate the student populace through certain individuals in order for them to carry the institutional line of march against that of the students. Some are in the DSA, others in the SRC and other loafing around acting as if they are for us while they are against us, the students.
2019 SRC ELECTIONS
Very importantly, the 2019 UP SRC elections, like those of the years before were not free, fair and credible. The failure of the Electoral Commission and the dismal performance of IBM to maintain impartiality is proof of unfree, unfair and uncredible elections. The rules of the CSG were not adhere to, there non-consultations in changing of ballots, the persons whom were meant to attend to complaints were aloof and condescending and there was one “men” decision making process including the conflict of interest between all these structures. What more proof of a fuss which we alluded to earlier do you need.
The last straw, the University endorsed through an “appreciation” post, a candidate on its social media platforms with no regard to rules of fairness, this mocked the entire campaigning and elections process.

PASMA has no faith in the entire unindependent electoral commission, the IMB including the DSA for that matter. It is unfortunate that structures like the Constitutional Tribunal (CT) are also suffocated by these violent tendencies of the aforementioned structures and most recently the registrar. We call on all students to familiarise themselves with the work of the CT in order to protect the rule of law in this university.

We are clear in our resolve and we maintain that in the choosing of sides between that of the university management and the students, we choose the students. We encourage all the revolutionary activists in the university to never be despondent; an inhuman system has only one end, destruction. History does not have blank pages.

Peace amongst the Africans, war against the enemy

Day one of UP SRC elections went well with all the changes that the so called Independent Electoral commission changing the e-ballots.

These forces of PASMA_UP do not have the leverage of the fizzy drinks, excess supply of t-shirts or any “prominent” leader to endorse their campaign. These might not be available within the fold of the PASMA as a student movement however, these forces have a heart of steel.

The spirit of serve suffer sacrifice is embodied on them;we thank our Afrikan goddes/God’s for such courageous forces.

The disadvantage of PASMA anywhere is the lack of financial support whether for programs or election campaigns. Many other students formations have got this advantage over PASMA.However, the trickiest part for such student formations, their political scripts are written by their mother bodies because of the financial backing.

This trickery compromises the narrative of their student politics and design it to suit the national politics.

With PASMA, the narrative of student politics can/will/is written by the students themselves. It is for this reasons that PASMA_UP has adopted the mantra “ .

This is similar to the so called “independent candidates”;their campaigns are funded by influential people who have an interest in them occupying such leadership positions;this makes them not independent.

If you are a UP Student and seek progress, please vote wisely and vote PASMA; the only independent student formation.

UP SRC elections from 26-28 August 2019.

16/08/2019

We acknowledge that students have different political ideas and convictions in this University; this implies that we need all hands on deck when it comes to solving our problems; PASMA is of the view that we need to work together in solidarity as a UNITED FRONT in order to transform our lived experiences in these Ivory Towers.

Firstly, capitalism does not care about your ideology, populism or constitution; hunger chows you with your beautiful English, rapists r**e us with our distinctions, mental health attacks us with our “f**kboy-ness”/radicalism and financial exclusion moers is all together alike as children of the working class, the African majority.

We are constantly being hewers of wood, second class citizens in our land;we are suffocated because we are thinking in divisions.

PASMA says;Unite or Perish.

16/08/2019

Why PASMA decided to participate in the elections?

Over the years, PASMA had resolved that it will not legitimize an illegitimate processes esp with regards to the individualizations of SRC candidates by the CSG.The latter view we still hold but this year, we felt that our silence in the “political” discourse on campus is robbing the Afrikan masses of ideas that are the one approach to humanism. It was a difficult decision to make but we calculated and strategized based on the political dynamics which are not static by the way. It was because of these reasons and mainly our love for the students and an urge for the emancipation of children of the working class, children of Azania and Africa that we opted to take part. This we did strategically so by focusing on Four specific portfolios (Postgrad & International students,Study Finance,Transformation officer and Treasurer).
We know that many reactionary ideas have been tried and tested at UP SRC;from Afrikaanerdom to Charterism and lately Liberalism but none of them seems to be eliminating the oppression. We are bringing an Azanian school of thought for students to try. The students must test us as is written in Malachi: “test Me now in this, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows."

We bring an overflow of freedom.

Vote wisely and vote PASMA on the 26-28 August 2019

PASMA stance on the UP SRC🤚🏾.

Student Representative Councils are not positions of power we aspire to occupy; for that matter, over the years, at University of Pretoria, SRC occupants have proved to be in a position of power but without power to effect changes. We also do not promote to have power mongers, populists, careerists and propagandists masquerading as revolutionary thinkers or “independent” candidates for that matter in the SRC. We however, long for the freedom of students and for the deliverance of their parents, families and society from the jaws of capital accumulation. We rather want to use the SRC platform to expose the following amongst the many; (a) the system of exploitation we see in society is consistently replicated by the system universities. (b) expose that universities are no different from profit mongers, from exploiters and from any other agents of exploitation and (c) that university administrators are cohorts in the corruption which results in high res, food and academic fees.

“God bless Afrika”

16/08/2019

PASMA_UP has noted the cases of students who are being mugged in trains while travelling from Hatfield to neighboring townships, however because of various reasons; many of these cases are not recorded. We [at UP] have students travelling from KwaMhlanga, Soweto, Germiston and Hammanskraal everyday just to have access to education. They cannot stay in Hatfield because of a commodification of a public good [Education]. All these ills contribute immeasurably negatively in the emotional, physical and academic well being of the students and subsequently leads to low performance and academic exclusions.

This by the way is an additional burden from that of having to think in Kiswahili, seShona, isiNguni, seSotho, and Xu as an African in class But then translate all those thoughts to a language from England.

Vote PASMA on the 26-28 August 2019 and embrace your African personality.
