Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality's partnership with New Venture Creation has unlocked phased two of a UIF funded project where learners will participate in practical agricultral activities.

The learners,through SEDA will be assisted to register Co-Ops that will later participate in the agricultural market after successful completion of the programme.

TWO ARRESTED FOR CABLE THEFT AFTER RESIDENTS ALERT POLICE

Two men were arrested at the Ezibeleni Zone 1 informal settlement on the morning of Monday, 07 September 2026, after residents came upon them in possession of several bags of packaged copper believed to have been stripped from municipal electricity infrastructure and prepared for resale. Residents contacted the South African Police Service, and both men were apprehended at the scene.

The arrests follow a series of incidents recorded across the municipal area. Westbourne, Nkululekweni and the Wastewater Treatment Works were recently left without power following a foiled cable theft, and further incidents have since been recorded and reported to the police. The interruption at the Wastewater Treatment Works is of particular concern, given that any extended loss of power at that facility carries consequences for effluent treatment, for the receiving watercourse and for public health.

The Municipality is currently experiencing a rise in theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure and appeals to residents to report suspected theft of, or damage to, electricity, water and sanitation infrastructure to the SAPS or the Municipality and maintain continued vigilance against izinyoka, whose activities place the electricity network, the municipal purse and the safety of residents at risk.

The Municipality commends community members for the role they played in the recent vandalism and theft.

UPDATE: UNPLANNED POWER INTERRUPTIONS

Amberdale, Horizon View, Melton Gardens:

Strong winds caused electrical poles to break. Power has been restored to most areas, with one farm isolated. The Municipality is sourcing a contractor to replace a broken pole.

Sandringham, Laurie Dashwood Park, Queensview, Army Base, Komani Park, Sabatha, Portion of New Rest:

Power restored.

Ezibeleni Zone D and Chankcele:

Broken jumper affecting the area. Repairs underway.

OR Tambo and Unathi Mkefa:
Power restored.

Khayelitsha, Unifound, Kwazakhele:*
Broken jumper. Team will be sent to repair today.

Popcorn Valley:

Cable fault. Team on site for repairs.
