A HISTORIC DAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF MOKGOLA VILLAGE IN WARD 7 RAMOTSHERE SUB REGION - 01 JULY 1989
TWO VILLAGES THAT FOUGHT FOR THE LIBERATION IN RAMOTSHERE SUB REGION (MOKGOLA AND LEKUBU VILLAGE)
From founding generation to the current, Mokgola Village has raised a community of heroes and heroines. They heroically rebelled against colonial values from Dinokana under the able leadership of Kgosi Keobusitse Moiloa, the rebellion resulted in the establishment of Mokgola.
During the revolution against imposed pass laws aimed at depriving Africans a free movement in their birthplace in the early 1950s, Mokgola Community led by their able Kgosi Keobusitse and the paramount Kgosi Ramotshere Moilwa revolted against the oppressive colonial apartheid laws that sought to restrict their movement in the land of birth.
In 1957 the apartheid regime once again sought to forcefully remove Mokgola community to Serake while at same time imposed pass books that controlled movement of Women, once again the response was decisive and heroic by generation of that time and some of these heroines are still a life to this time. when the clarion call by the leadership of liberation movement came, Mokgola community responded in affirmative.
Mokgola community bravely resisted apartheid rule consistently resulting in them being demonized by both apartheid and its Bophuthatswana surrogate. in this context it is important for the current generation to appreciate that, the freedom that we are enjoying today did not come easy. Bloodshed and superior price was paid." the blood of those generations has nourished the trees of liberation for today's generation to be free" .
To show appreciation to our founding generations, in 1989 young people of both Mokgola and Lekubu Villages rejected the forced incorporation into Apartheid surrogate regime namely, Bophuthatswana. December first 1988 remains as dark day in the history of the two twin Villages, Bophuthatswana regime and apartheid regime made announcement that the two Village had become part of the Bantustan.
It was that announcement that mobilized and triggered resistance by students attending school at Ngotwane to mount resistance that was ruthlessly crushed by both Bophuthatswana and South African Police at the entrance of Lekubu. That police brutality and forced incorporation into Bophuthatswana once again, mobilized the generation of political activists, students and entire community once more against the oppressive, inhumane colonial apartheid laws.
Appreciation once more should be paid to those who laid life down for us to be liberated and enjoying the fruits of the liberation trees nourished by their blood, spur a moment for Mpaki Mosimane, Daddy Mathe, Blacky R Monnana many more. The important question however need to be posed, how best can heroines and heroes can they be honoured? second strategic question possibly, why did generations before struggle so hard to defend Mokgola to remain part of South Africa?
July the 1st can possibly be remembered as last Mokgola battle against apartheid regime, how best can this day be remembered by future generations?
