In a country where up to 30% of people go to bed hungry each night, food insecurity can no longer be pushed aside โ it has to become a national imperative.
This crisis is complex. Millions of tons of edible food are wasted each year, contributing not only to hunger but to environmental harm. At the same time, children suffer the devastating effects of malnutrition, including stunting and wasting.
While government has the resources and capacity to lead the charge, progress appears to be hindered by an absence of political will. But the spirit of ubuntu lives on in our communities. Across the country, dedicated organisations and individuals are stepping up to feed those in need. During Mandela Month, we've been overwhelmed by the generosity shown through our Jars of Hope campaign.
Which is why weโre so grateful to those who have generously donated Jars of Hope during Mandela Month. To date, we have received 1 754 jars โ thatโs an amazing 7 016 meals for those in need!
Because we have so many organisations and individuals to thank, we cannot acknowledge everyone in a single post. Today, we want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Greatstock Pty Ltd, Chatz Connect, Netcare Limited, The Glass Recycling Company, LYT Architecture, and Sandy Husted.
Thank you for caring and for supporting this important initiative. Together, weโre not just filling stomachs โ weโre restoring dignity, one jar at a time.
