Besides generously donating their potjies to various beneficiaries, our Pots of Hope chefs also participated in a potjiekos competition.

Our panel of adjudicators certainly had their work cut out for them as they tasted no less than 37 potjies!

The prize for the winning potjie went the ๐™ˆ๐™ฎ ๐™ƒ๐™š๐™ง๐™ค team, Tarrin Warrin and Byron Phillips, whose lamb potjie blew our three judges away. In second place was Con Brio Cares, whose Gnu Stew (wildebeest) was a hit, and in third place was FERL (Food Evolution Research Laboratory) for their Indigenous Potjie, a highly nutritious vegan dish.

Heartiest congratulations to you all!

Yesterday marked Doorway to Dignityโ€™s 9th annual Pots of Hope event โ€“ a truly memorable day. Despite forecasts of an 86% chance of precipitation, every single team braved the chilly, overcast weather, arriving ready to cook up a storm (not a literal one ๐Ÿ˜Š). They were not going to let the threat of a little rain dampen their spirits, and many brought gazebos and canopies to provide enough cover for everyone during the hour-long shower. Some even found time to play a game of 30 Seconds ๐Ÿ˜Š

Our potjie chefs and sous chefs certainly didnโ€™t disappoint, providing a variety of delectable potjies โ€“ 37 in all โ€“ which they generously donated to our beneficiaries. Ten of these potjies were served to our 75 restaurant guests, most of whom attend Ferndale Bible Chapelโ€™s Saturday Church feeding scheme. These and the remaining potjies were also served with rice into 650 eco-friendly containers and given to pre-selected beneficiary organisations who distributed them to children, the elderly, and feeding schemes, and other individuals and families in need.

We couldnโ€™t have asked for a better outcome and are so thankful to God for carrying us through past few months of planning and preparation.

A massive thank you to all the participating teams and our hardworking volunteers โ€“ you are all rockstars!

We're buzzing with excitement! In just two days, we'll be celebrating Doorway to Dignity's 9th annual Pots of Hope event.

Our potjie chefs are madly polishing their pots and perfecting their secret recipes for what promises to be a truly spectacular day of delicious food, fierce (but friendly!) competition, and most importantly, bringing hope and dignity to those who need it most.
To give you a taste of what's in store, here are some highlights from last year's event. Hope to see you on Saturday!

That's right! In just over a week, we'll be celebrating Doorway to Dignity's 9th annual Pots of Hope event.

For those who are unfamiliar with this exciting initiative, Pots of Hope comprises three elements โ€“ a potjiekos competition, a pop-up restaurant, and distribution of meals. This year, we have 40 participating teams lined up for the potjiekos competition, which will be judged by our panel of professional chefs. The pop-up restaurant will serve about 80 homeless and vulnerable individuals, who will be attended by servers and order their meals from a menu of potjie dishes, just as they would in a regular restaurant. The remaining potjiekos meals will be served with rice in eco-friendly takeaway containers and distributed to pre-selected beneficiaries.

Pots of Hope 2025 takes place at Ferndale Bible Chapel on Saturday 18 October from 08:00 to 14:00. We'd love you to pop by and visit.

In a country where up to 30% of people go to bed hungry each night, food insecurity can no longer be pushed aside โ€” it has to become a national imperative.

This crisis is complex. Millions of tons of edible food are wasted each year, contributing not only to hunger but to environmental harm. At the same time, children suffer the devastating effects of malnutrition, including stunting and wasting.

While government has the resources and capacity to lead the charge, progress appears to be hindered by an absence of political will. But the spirit of ubuntu lives on in our communities. Across the country, dedicated organisations and individuals are stepping up to feed those in need. During Mandela Month, we've been overwhelmed by the generosity shown through our Jars of Hope campaign.

Which is why weโ€™re so grateful to those who have generously donated Jars of Hope during Mandela Month. To date, we have received 1 754 jars โ€” thatโ€™s an amazing 7 016 meals for those in need!

Because we have so many organisations and individuals to thank, we cannot acknowledge everyone in a single post. Today, we want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Greatstock Pty Ltd, Chatz Connect, Netcare Limited, The Glass Recycling Company, LYT Architecture, and Sandy Husted.

Thank you for caring and for supporting this important initiative. Together, weโ€™re not just filling stomachs โ€” weโ€™re restoring dignity, one jar at a time.

Want to join the fight against food insecurity? Drop us a line (WhatsApp works too) to find out how you can become involved in our Jars of Hope campaign or simply spread awareness about this critical issue. Every action counts.
