Celebrating Our Own

The Rand West City Libraries, in partnership with the West Rand Youth Advisory Panelists, hosted a special screening of the movie Catch Me a Killer at Kgothalang Primary School.

The event was held in honour of SAFTA nominee Kagiso Kuypers from Bekkersdal. Kagiso began his acting journey at a young age, appearing in blockbuster productions, and has now starred in the movie Catch Me a Killer.

The screening provided learners with a valuable opportunity to engage with the actor, who shared his personal journey in the film industry and encouraged them to pursue their dreams.

The event was both inspiring and motivating for the learners, highlighting the importance of celebrating local talent and recognising the achievements of individuals from our own communities.

Rand West City Libraries Mohlakeng Ext 7 — In a heartwarming community outreach initiative, Mohlakeng Library visited the Mohlakeng Old Age Home today to promote its services and encourage senior residents to become active library members. The visit formed part of the library’s ongoing efforts to make reading materials and information resources accessible to all members of the community, including the elderly.
During the visit, library representatives assisted residents with registering for library membership. A total of 12 residents expressed interest and completed application forms to join the library. Staff also engaged with residents to understand their specific reading needs and preferences.
Particular attention was given to inclusivity, as three partially blind residents showed interest in accessing library materials. Library officials confirmed that specialized resources for visually impaired readers would be made available to support them.
In addition, the team proposed the introduction of a weekly book club at the facility. The initiative aims to provide companionship and shared reading experiences for residents who may struggle to read independently or simply wish to enjoy stories in a social setting.
The outreach program was met with enthusiasm and appreciation from residents, many of whom expressed excitement about the opportunity to engage with books and participate in future reading activities. Organizers described the visit as a success and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing community-focused literacy programs.
