EMS RED ZONES
https://emsredzones.org.za

Every crew knows the feeling. You're responding into an area, and somewhere in the back of your mind: "Wasn't a crew robbed here last month? Didn't someone get hijacked two streets down?"

That knowledge has always lived in radio chatter, WhatsApp groups and hard-earned memory. One service learns the lesson on Tuesday — another relearns it, at a price, on Friday.

So we built one map for all of us.

EMS Red Zones South Africa is a free, national, community-driven map of the areas where emergency crews face danger - stoning, hijacking, spiking, crew robbery - together with the incidents behind them. It's live now, and it belongs to the whole EMS community: public, private, fire and rescue alike.

View the map — red zones graded from "caution" to "no-go / es**rt required", with reported incidents

Contribute in minutes — draw a zone, refine one, or report an incident. No account needed, anonymous welcome, and services that contribute get credited on the map at their request.

Every submission is reviewed by a moderator before it's published — no rumours, no spam.

Built for compliance — the platform directly supports the OHSC's EMS inspection measures on marking incidents on route-planning maps, communicating them to personnel, and sharing them with services in your area. There's a station display mode for your dispatch screen, ready-to-sign SOP templates, and a monthly signed evidence report. See the Compliance page on the site.

To every responder, medic, firefighter and call-taker reading this: your knowledge protects crews you will never meet. Five minutes on the map today could spare a colleague the worst shift of their life.

HIJACK / ACCIDENT

Bronkhorstspruit Road at N4 Gateway Park, Pretoria

Last night, paramedics responded to a motor vehicle accident following a hijacking. Two victims were forced into the back seat of their own vehicle while the armed suspects sped off with them inside.

According to the victims, the ordeal was terrifying. They were forced to keep their heads down with their arms raised while the suspects stripped them of their personal belongings. The suspects also forced the victims to unlock their mobile phones and proceeded to search through their private data and banking apps.

During the hijacking, the suspects immediately located and removed the vehicle's standard tracking device. However, unbeknownst to them, the vehicle owner had alternative tracking units in the vehicle. This proactive measure allowed tracking companies to swiftly pinpoint the vehicle's location and immediately initiate a pursuit shortly after the hijacking.

During the chase, the suspects lost control of the vehicle and crashed into stationary objects on the side of the road. They managed to flee the scene, leaving the injured victims behind in the wrecked vehicle.

Paramedics arrived on scene and assessed the victims. Both victims were found to have sustained moderate injuries during the accident. Both patients were treated on-site and safely transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The South African Police Service was on the scene conducting investigations surrounding this incident.
