June is National Environment Month in South Africa! 🌳🦋🌻🦁 All of 30 days to think more deeply about how our choices help create or relieve ecological burdens, and the importance of biodiversity conservation in maintaining, and regenerating, our natural environment for our fauna, flora and people. 🐝 🌷👪

This year's theme has been set by the government of South Africa as "Think, Eat, Save and reduce your foodprint." Emphasising specifically food waste and chemical use in agriculture, with rising pressures from climate change the carbon footprint of what we eat has an impact - the food system as a whole accounts for almost a third of all greenhouse gas emissions. Eating local and eating for a lower footprint really makes a difference.

With a little help from humanity, nature and indigenous species can rewild and recover! 😊🐘🌹

Interacting with nature has restorative benefits. 🚶🌳🎋A growing body of scientific studies has confirmed this, revealing how hiking through landscapes or even gazing at them through a window can provide benefits such as lower blood pressure, quickened healing times and improved moods.

Long treated as a backdrop to human life, the trees, babbling streams and rolling hills of the natural world could actually help repair society’s fraying social fabric.

Species should not only be valued once they become critically endangered. We need to ensure that they survive to play the vital role in our ecology, on which we all depend. Our earth, which we do not yet fully understand, needs protection - and the establishment of protected tracts of natural land (no matter how small) is vital in ensuring the future of our living fauna and flora.

When Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin had his stirring moment seeing 400 prehistoric direwolf skulls arrayed on a wall while visiting the...

This year’s theme of “Acting Locally for Global Impact” highlights that halting and reversing biodiversity loss on a global scale depends on actions taken at the tier of neighbourhoods and individuals. Major changes often begin on a small, local scale, and more than ever, conservation success depends on the readiness of communities and governments to work together at a grassroots level.

When biodiversity has a problem, humanity has a problem. Biodiversity is the living fabric of our planet. It underpins human well-being, and its...

What better way to celebrate than by sharing a recent rescue story from the Wild Rescue Wildlife Clinic?

Things have been buzzing (literally!) around here. We recently discovered a massive swarm of bees had moved into our clinic roof, building an incredibly intricate hive. While we love our pollinators, the clinic needs to stay clear for our feathered and furred patients—so it was time for a professional "relocation vacation."

The Rescue: A huge thank you to local bee expert Johan Cloete, who stepped in to save the day! Johan carefully removed the colony, ensuring the queen and her swarm were kept safe and calm.

The Plan: The bees are spending the winter with Johan to stay strong and healthy. Once the warmer weather returns, this exact swarm will be returned to the Wild Rescue grounds to continue their vital work in the fynbos.

Every life matters here—from the smallest worker bee to the largest animal in our care. 🌿

Support Local: Johan's 100% natural fynbos honey comes highly recommended! Contact him at 083 460 2123 to taste the magic of the fynbos for yourself.
