MUNICIPAL DEMARCATION BOARD CONFIRMS SPATIAL LOCATION OF LERATONG VILLAGE

The Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) led by the Chairperson of the Board, Mr Thabo Manyoni, earlier today participated in meeting at Leratong Hospital with the Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development & Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs (Mr Jacob Mamabolo), the Executive Mayor of Mogale City Local Municipality (Councillor Lucky Sele) and the Speaker of the City of Johannesburg (Councillor Margaret Arnolds), to clarify the municipal jurisdiction and spatial location of Leratong Village (Gauteng Province).

The engagement provided an opportunity for the relevant stakeholders to deliberate on the question of which municipality Leratong Village forms part of, following concerns and discussions regarding the demarcation of the area.

During the meeting, the MDB confirmed that, spatially, Leratong Village is located within Ward 127 of the City of Johannesburg.

This confirmation is based on the MDB’s official spatial demarcation information and provides clarity regarding the ward within which Leratong Village is geographically located.

The MDB emphasises that its role is to determine and maintain municipal boundaries in accordance with the applicable legislative framework and to provide authoritative information on municipal and ward demarcations.

The Board will continue to engage with the relevant stakeholders to ensure a common understanding of the applicable municipal boundaries and that accurate information regarding demarcation matters is communicated to affected communities.
