THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY VISITED KAGISANO MOLOPO LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

Kagisano Molopo Local Municipality had the honor of hosting the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies for a Career Expo at Ganyesa Auditorium for the past two days.

The exhibition accommodated about two hundred learners from different clusters exposing them to career opportunities that are ICT related.

Amongst the dignitaries present were the MEC for Education hon Wendy Matsemela, the District Mayor Cllr Kgalalelo Sereko and the Speakers for both the District and Local Municipality, Cllrs Lorato Moreke and Stokie Modise.

The Deputy Minister hon Pinky Kekana highlighted the importance of digital pe*******on in rural areas like our sub district Kagisano Molopo. As part of the progressive intervention by the Department, free WiFi units were installed at Huhudi High School, Bore Secondary School and Temoso School for the disabled in order to alleviate the digital divide. The Deputy Minister further emphasised the need to expose our rural schools to the digital world, to which we are slowly gravitating, in order to make teaching and learning easy and to promote e-learning in rural schools.

The Mayor of Kagisano Molopo Cllr Segomotso Mere commended the Deputy Minister and her Departmental Team for putting in place such progressive measures in a quest to address the digital divide as one of the challenges that we experience in our sub-district particularly in our schools. The Mayor further appealed to the Deputy Minister and the MEC for Education about the need to have more Community and School ICT hubs in order to promote access to information. The Mayor further indicated that most learners in our rural schools do not go into institutions of higher learning immediately after matriculating due to a major challenge of lack of access to information about tertiary education and bursary schemes and much of this information is found on the internet which many of our learners do not have access to. The Mayor applauded and appreciated the initiative and is confident that with such a huge attendance by learners from different clusters, there is going to be a widespread of very important information to those who did not get the opportunity to attend the exhibition.

As Kagisano Molopo Local Municipality we reaffirm our commitment in ensuring that we make education fashionable as one of the most important components of any developmental society.
