Here is a glimpse of the incredible memories from the 4th False Bay Express 6km Swim was held on Saturday 6 June 2026. All the photos and memories of an amazing day in the Bay expertly captured by Chris Hitchcock will be shared shortly.
On the day were blessed with perfect conditions for the swim this year and a field of 68 swimmers took on the False Bay's Biggest Adventure Swim between Simon's Town and Fish Hoek. A mixture of wetsuit clad and skin swimmers were split between two Pods, Adventure (over 2min per 100m) and Racing (under 2 min per 100m).
The swimmers were greeted in the morning by near perfect conditions with 15C to 16C water temparatures and calm Ocean conditions with very little swell. The Adventure Pod got the swim underway and were followed 20 minutes later by a very competitive and experienced Racing Pod. Defending 2025 Event Champion Dale Blanshard led out the swim with Wayne Willetts followed by a Pod of the local Silverminers' swimming group along with Carina Bruwer and 15 year old Leon Walther-Kotze. The pace was relentless from the start and there was certainly no time for sight-seeing!
The leading Men made short work of the 6km swim route with Willetts maintaining a narrow lead over Blanshard to take the win finishing only 7 seconds ahead of the defending Champion. Mark Bind narrowly edged out a hard charging Roy Clark with the remaining Silverminers' dominating the Top 10 places. First Lady home was Carina Bruwer who completed the Top 10 and was followed home by Marizanne Grundlingh (2nd Lady) and Marie Smith rounding out the Ladiers podium in 3rd place. Young gun Leon Walther-Kotze finished a credible 7th amongst a very experienced field of swimmers and will be one to watch at other upcoming swims! 66 of the 68 swimmers that started the False Bay Express 6km swim finished! A testament to both the quality and experience of the field as well as the diligent safety team that were in attendance on land and in the water.
With thanks to The False Bay Express 6km swim partners this year who once again gave generously in terms of their support of the swim and swimmers.
