In March 2025 it was reported that there’s at least 32500 names on the National S*x Offenders Register (NRSO) with an additional 10,456 potential entries still pending in various courts. This has been confirmed by the Registrar of the Register at the Department of Justice.

Appropriate vetting and screening is crucial for keeping children safe.

Let's extrapolate those numbers a bit - if 36 children are r***d every hour - that is 864 per day or 6048 per week or about 26000 per month or 311000 every year !!!! SHOCKING !!!!! And, unecessary !!!!
So, I would agree with the urgent need for stronger child protection and justice systems - which means - - - much more effective reporting resulting in definite and severe convictions that would deter people from ra**ng children into the future.

It will take the village . . . .

CHILD R**E - THE REALITY
Based on official reports, a child in South Africa is r***d or s*xually abused approximately every 14 minutes. However, research shows that only a fraction of cases are ever reported. If we assume just 9% of incidents are reported, this translates to roughly 48 children experiencing r**e or s*xual abuse every hour — about 1 child every 1 to 1½ minutes. Even at a slightly higher reporting rate of 12%, the estimated number remains alarmingly high, with around 36 children per hour — nearly 1 child every 1.7 minutes. These figures illustrate that the official statistics capture only a small part of the problem, and the true scale of child s*xual abuse in South Africa is likely far greater.
