Langenhoven library

Langenhoven library Langenhoven library is a public library that serves the community of Somerset East. We are situated on the corner of Union and Louis Trichardstreet.

In 1832, Dr William Gill, the rev. George Morgan, and the Resident Magistrate Mr. Marillier, founded the first attempt at a library, and called it "The Somerset Reading Society" On October 22, 1866, a Reading Room was established. In 1884, the name of the library is given in the local press as "The Somerset East Library and Reading Room." In 1973, it changed to Langenhoven Library. The site where

the library is situated, was bought in 1903 for the sum of £25. This was the corner plot on "Main street", now Louis Trichardt Street.
