Bush Radio 89.5FM, based in Cape Town, is Africa’s oldest community radio station project. It began as a grassroots media voice for social upliftment, outside of apartheid’s restrictions. With its tagline “The Mother Community Radio”, it is fitting that in Women’s Month, Jasnine interviewed Wandisa Specialist Child Protection & Adoption Agency on “Sakhisizwe” - Bou die Nasie, Build the Nation. Social Workers Tamsin and Charné highlighted some real life challenges confronting the women and children whom Wandisa serves and importantly, presented options to obtain help. Thank you, Bush Radio, and well done on your superb advocacy, Tamsin and Charné! www.wandisa.com Western Cape Department of Social Development, Cape Town

Not that there ever needs to be a reason for cupcakes - BUT our first Intercountry Adoption Reunion on home soil certainly qualifies! Wandisa & Wybrow-Oliver were delighted to host 1 US & 3 Dutch families last Thursday. Privileged to know these families (some for many years), to see the grownups and kiddies connecting - and to be part of each adopted child’s memory-making of their Motherland!
Another wonderful WOWZA Wybrow-Oliver-Wandisa ZA collaboration

Good news about South African & Dutch relations. But priority MUST be given to South Africa’s children with different abilities whose best option is placement into Dutch families ito the established Hague Bilateral Working Agreement. Kingdom of the Netherlands in South Africa Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities - to ensure this mutual co-operation continues at this critical level, please ensure strong advocacy against the Dutch proposal to terminate all intercountry adoptions into the Netherlands. It is a dark day indeed … Today, our Dutch partner agency has made public its decision to cease Intercountry adoption mediation at the end of 2028. This follows the Dutch Government’s election to shut its doors to all children - including those from South Africa - effective December 2030, which with respect, is devastatingly negative for South African children needing homes. We can only pray that there will be a political turnaround… Wandisa NPC is privileged to have worked exceptionally closely alongside Nederlandse Adoptie Stichting for the past 16 years. Together with legal input from Wybrow-Oliver Attorneys we have placed over 50 children into Dutch homes where we know they are thriving. With our accreditation firmly in place for the foreseeable future, Wandisa Specialist Child Protection & Adoption Agency pledges its unconditional support going forward to those families already in process, adopted children and families, and those considering adopting from South Africa. We will also do everything possible to advocate for policy changes that embrace South African children. See NAS letter below. Why do we keep on trying to find families for children when there is so much opposition on every level to what we do? Because each time we share in the triumphs of milestones reached and see children thrive in families because they belong, everything else fades away. We marvel at children’s resilience. We are reminded of our purpose and passion. And hold tightly onto each precious memory of our journey together, timeless treasures in a fast and furious world. David’s recent visit is one such treasure. Honoured to be part of your Life Story, David. On 5 June 2026, Charné Hess & Mischke Schippers of Wandisa Specialist Child Protection & Adoption Agency attended the Child Protection Event at the Phambili Community Development Centre, Broadlands, Strand. The event was to raise awareness about the different services available within the community & how to access them. Stakeholders then marched through the community, distributing pamphlets & engaging with those community members who could most benefit from these options. Our Team enjoyed learning more about colleagues serving alongside us &
discussing ways in which we can work together in the future to better support the community. Western Cape Government Department of Social Development

Wandisa Specialist Child Protection & Adoption Agency’s Hayden Zingitwa joined around 100 professionals from 44 diverse organisations at the Annual Child Protection Training Event hosted by Connect Network, Jelly Beanz & Edith Kriel, Matla A Bana & Western Cape Street Children's Forum, with Dr Joan van Niekerk also presenting. Disturbing were the factors that could contribute to harmful sexual behaviours in children, including:- exposure to po*******hy; early attachment & bonding difficulties; negative peer group influences; acting out emotional distress; family stress & dysfunction; abuse & coercion; & psychiatric & mental health factors. How to manage these behaviours that harm other children was discussed, as were challenges experienced by child witnesses within the justice system. Hayden found the training to be valuable & enjoyed the emphasis on the collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches necessary to safeguard children & promote their overall well-being.
