Congratulations to these dedicated parents who successfully participated and completed the Parenting Skills Groupwork Programme facilitated by a Social Worker from ACVV Somerset West.
Our first session was presented by guest speaker and Clinical Psychologist, Mr. Grabriel Le Roux, who facilitated an insightful discussion on childhood development. Subsequent sessions focused on important topics such as the emotional needs of children, different parenting styles, communication styles, children's rights & responsibilities, parental rights & responsibilities, self-awareness, as well as discipline and boundaries.
All participating parents met, and in many cases exceeded, the expectations of the programme. The positive feedback received reflects the impact of the groupwork. One parent shared, "Ouervaardighede wat ek kan deel met ander ouers." Another parent stated, "Die boodskap is jy kan 'n beter ouer wees of word as jy leer en luister wat jou kind te sê het of vra, en jy as ouer leer."
Some group members even took the initiative to share what they had learned with their neighbours extending the benefits of the programme into the wider community.
This valuable feedback reminds us that learning is a lifelong journey. No one is ever too old to develop new skills, especially when it comes to strengthening relationships with our children and becoming the best parents we can be. By investing in ourselves as parents, we create healthier family relationships, nurture our children's emotional wellbeing, and contribute to building stronger communities.
We are proud of each parent who committed to this journey of growth, self-reflection, and learning. Your dedication to your children and families is inspiring, and we wish you continued success as you apply these skills in your daily lives.
A special word of thanks to Huis Marie Louw, ACVV Management, and volunteers for their generosity in providing our parents with warm meals during the programme. Your kindness and hospitality were greatly appreciated! We would also like to extend our gratitude to Ms. Adelle Nel for her generous donation of beautiful scarves and warm winter clothing, helping to keep our parents warm during cold winter months.
Together, through partnership, compassion, and community support, we can continue to strengthen families and create brighter futures for our children 🫶
