As part of Women’s Month, our Co-Founder, Cathrine “LionHeart” Nyquist, was recognised on Women’s Day with the Award for True Big Cat Sanctuary and Conscious Tourism. 🦁💛

More than ten years ago, Cathrine and our Co-Founder, Lizaene Cornwall, made a choice. They chose to stand up for captive-bred big cats and challenge the industries that exploit these magnificent animals for commercial gain.
Together, they founded Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary, a true ethical sanctuary where we do not breed, trade or allow public interaction. We provide lifelong care to animals who cannot be released into the wild while advocating for a future where big cats are no longer bred for exploitation.
Their journey reminds us why conscious tourism matters. Every place we visit and every wildlife experience we support, helps shape demand. One choice may feel small, but together our choices can create a ripple powerful enough to help change an entire industry.
While this award recognises Cathrine’s work, it also honours our animals, our entire team and every person who helps put these values into practice each day.
