A Special Homecoming at Cloetesville High School ๐Ÿซ๐ŸŽ€โœ‚๏ธ

Mayor Jeremy Fasser was honoured to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the dedication of the Cloetesville High School Hall to the schoolโ€™s first principal, Mr ALG April.

The occasion held an even deeper significance for the Mayor, as Cloetesville High School is his alma mater. Both Mayor Fasser and his wife, Mercia, matriculated from the school as part of the Class of 1996.

It was a privilege to celebrate the life, contribution and lasting legacy of Mr April, whose impact helped shape generations of learners.

Today, we were in Kayamandi for another important Title Deed event - turning residents who have lived in government-built homes for decades into the legal owners of their properties.

For many families, these are historic homes built by the State many years ago. Today, their names officially appear on the title deeds. That means ownership, an asset in their name, something to pass on to their children and the security and dignity that comes with owning your home.

This work has been taking place across the Stellenbosch municipal area, with similar title deed events in Jamestown, Cloetesville, Klapmuts, Mooiwater, Idaโ€™s Valley, Kylemore, La Motte and Groendal to name a few.

Because a house becomes so much more when it is truly yours. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ”‘

๐Ÿ’ง Tunnel Maintenance Successfully Completed

We are pleased to confirm that the planned maintenance on the RSE Berg River Tunnel has been successfully completed and the tunnel is once again open.

Everything went according to plan, and we would like to thank all residents, businesses and visitors for their cooperation and for heeding the call to use water even more sparingly than usual during the maintenance period.

While the maintenance is now complete, we encourage everyone to remain mindful of their water use throughout the year. Water is one of our most valuable resources and every drop counts. ๐Ÿ’ง

๐Ÿ’ง Reminder: Please use less water until 24 August

Planned maintenance on the Theewaterskloof Dam to Riviersonderend (RSE) Berg River Tunnel starts today, Wednesday, 12 August and will continue until Monday, 24 August 2026.

The Municipality has planned carefully to minimise the impact and no water interruptions are expected. However, limited supply will be available throughout the municipal area, so residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period.

The maintenance is being carried out by the National Department of Water and Sanitation as part of a mandatory five-yearly inspection and maintenance programme on the Theewaterskloof Dam to Riviersonderend (RSE) Berg River Tunnel. This nationally managed infrastructure is essential to the long-term reliability of the water system.

๐Ÿ’ง Help save water by:
* Taking shorter showers
* Running full washing-machine loads
* Fixing leaking taps and pipes
* Delaying unnecessary garden watering

Your small actions can make a big difference. Please help us conserve more water from 12โ€“24 August.

The power of words to inspire change! ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒฑ

As part of Stellenbosch Municipalityโ€™s ongoing waste and environmental management education initiatives, we launched a Municipal Schools Poetry Competition to encourage learners to think about the impact our everyday actions have on the environment.

With the theme โ€œEnvironmental Sustainability: Effects of Pollution, Waste Generated by Human Activity and Recycling,โ€ learners were challenged to reflect on issues such as pollution, waste and recycling - and to use the power of poetry to inspire positive change.

Following the submission of poems by local schools on 3 October 2025, ten schools were shortlisted to compete in the final.

Today, we were delighted to recognise one of our outstanding young winners. Iviwe Peter, who was a Grade 8 learner at Makupula Secondary School at the time of the competition and is now in Grade 9, won the High School Category, earning her school a R5 000 prize.

Iviwe was invited to Council today as a special guest, where Mayor Jeremy Fasser honoured her, as well as all the learners and schools who took part in the competition.

Her powerful poem, โ€œEarth is Crying Today,โ€ captured the urgency of environmental action and served as a moving reminder that protecting our planet is a responsibility we all share.

Well done, Iviwe! Your words are a powerful reminder that even young voices can make a big difference.
