Next vintage starts with the first cut.

Pruning is one of the most important jobs in the vineyard because it decides how the vine will grow in the season ahead. Each cut helps control how much fruit the vine will carry and how evenly that fruit can ripen.

Balanced vines give better grapes. Better grapes give the cellar cleaner flavours, natural freshness and stronger structure to work with. The wine improves long before the first bunch is picked.

from the Cape Leopard Trust archives ~ a small-spotted genet (kleinkolmuskeljaatkat ~ 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘢 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘢) on high alert. Genets rely heavily on olfactory communication and have a very keen sense of smell – they will often get up on their hind legs to sniff messages wafting on the breeze – just like this one, checking the nightly social media of the veld 😉
