Man Declared Deceased Following Cardiac Arrest: Westbrook Beach – KZN

A 38-year-old man was tragically declared deceased after suffering a cardiac arrest on Westbrook Beach in Westbrook, KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday morning.

IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers together with IPSS Medical Rescue was first on scene after multiple reports of a possible drowning. Upon arrival, paramedics found family members performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the unresponsive patient on the shoreline. Advanced Life Support Paramedics immediately took over and initiated advanced life support resuscitation.

It is understood that the man, who was on holiday in KwaZulu-Natal, had exited the surf shortly before collapsing and going into cardiac arrest.

Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, the patient could not be revived and was declared deceased on scene.

The man’s identity was confirmed by family members who were present at the time of the incident.

Watson highway collision leaves 1 deceased

At approximately 21:15 IPSS S&R TONGAAT Duty cell recieved multiple calls for a accident on the Watson highway in the vicinity of break village.

IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers together with emergency services were dispatched and upon arrival found a tanker and car involved in a head on collision.

The driver and only occupant off the car was found to be severely entrapped in the vehicle and was assessed by paramedics and was declared deceased. The truck driver was also assessed and sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was extricated using the jaws of life with the assistance of IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers. The exact cause of the accident is unknown and will be investigated by SAPS.

Multiple injured- N2 Tongaat Toll

Earlier this afternoon Multiple reports were recieved for a bakkie that overturned on the N2 near the Tongaat Toll.

IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers together with emergency services were dispatched and upon arrival found a single bakkie had rolled multiple times.

Multiple patients were on scene and were triage. A total of 10 patients had sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical.

All patients were treated and stabilized by IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers together with paramedics before being transported to hospital for the further care they required.

The exact cause of the accident is unknown at this stage. Thank you to IPSS Medical Rescue , Kwadukuza Fire Department, RTI and IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers for the quick response.

At approximately 10am multiple reports from various watsapp traffic groups were received for a accident on the N2 in the vicinity of King Shaka International Airport.

IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers together with emergency services were dispatched and upon arrival found a single vehicle which had been traveling on the northbound lane had rolled multiple times before landing on the southbound lane. 2 patients which had suffered injuries ranging from moderate to serious were treated and stabilized by paramedics before being transported to hospital under Advanced Life Support(ALS) supervision. Unfortunately 1 person had suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.

At this stage the events leading up to the accidents is unknown and will be investigated by the SAPS. Thank you to IPSS Medical Rescue , Tongaat SAPS, RTI umdloti and IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers for the quick response.

We urge motorists that are traveling to please reduce your speed and keep a safe following distance.

Tongaat - body recovered

On Wednesday afternoon, a shooting in the business district of Tongaat left a man, aged 25, deceased.

IPSS Search & Rescue and IPSS S&R Tongaat, were called to the scene on Wednesday evening, assisting Tongaat SAPS by recovering the young man’s body from the river.

The cause of the shooting is currently unknown and is under investigation.

Multiple injured-N2 Ballito

Earlier this evening reports came in of an accident on the N2 in the vicinity of ballito involving 2 vehicles.

IPSS S&R TONGAAT together with emergency services were dispatched and upon arrival found a bakkie that had gone off the road and a fully laden taxi on its side.

A quick triage was done by IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers whilst more resources were being dispatched. A total of 8 patients were transported to hospital.

The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Thank you to IPSS Medical Rescue , Kwadukuza Fire Department, RTI and IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers for the quick response.

Multiple injured- M4 boys town

At approximately 07:30 Multiple reports were recieved via watsapp groups for an accident on the M4 in the vicinity of boys town.

IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers together with emergency services were dispatched and upon arrival found 2 vehicles involved leaving Multiple people injured.

It is alleged that a taxi had stopped to pick up passengers when the vehicle behind him carrying workers tried to avoid him resulting in the accident. 5 occupants sustained minor injuries and 1 person sustained critical injuries.

He was intubated and ventilated before being transported to hospital under Advanced Life Support supervision. Thank you to IPSS Medical Rescue , Metro Police, Tongaat SAPS and IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers for the quick response.

R102, Tongaat - Bus crashes over bridge.

Earlier this morning IPSS S&R TONGAAT and other services recieved reports of a bus crash on the R102 near Maidstone Sugar Mill.

On arrival of emergency services it was established that a fully laden bus had veered off the Tongaat River Bridge on the R102.

Twelve people sustained serious injuries with some entrapped in the wreckage. The entrapped passengers were extricated by Tongaat Fire Department. They were then stabilised by paramedics on scene before being transported to hospital for further care they required.

A very difficult high angle Rescue mission was done by our IPSS Search and Rescue Members where 2 patients were taken up to the bridge with a high angle rope system and stokes basket.

Sadly three people were declared deceased on scene and their bodies were also recovered with the same high angle rope system and stokes basket.

Many thanks to members of IPSS Medical Rescue , IPSS Search and Rescue, SAPS Tongaat, Tongaat Fire Department, SAPS K9 Search and Rescue both umhlali and durban, Metro Police Search and Rescue, Metro police, RTI, KZN VIP Protection Services , RUSA, EMRS, F1 Towing, Bigshow Towing and IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers. Thank you to the bystanders for their assistance on scene as well.

1 critical- M4 accident

At approximately 19:15 IPSS S&R TONGAAT received reports of a accident on the M4 in the vicinity of Umdloti.

IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers together with paramedics were dispatched and upon arrival found 2 vehicles involved in a head on collision. It was established that 1 person sustained critical injuries. He was treated by IPSS S&R TONGAAT Volunteers together with paramedics. Once stabilized he was transported to hospital under the care of Advanced Life Support for the further care he required.
