So as a Landlord or Property Manager you think you've ticked all the boxes when it comes to the protection of lives and your property? You have "technical" service providers that share your passion and would never compromise when it comes to safety and security?
Unfortunately this may not be the case!
The attached photos clearly indicate that making a quick buck still prevails over integrity and due diligence. These pics are taken of a building in Durban CBD. The "end-of-line resistors" (brown components) are supposed to be installed on the last device (smoke detector) in order for the Fire Alarm Panel to check that there is no break in the cable, and that all the smoke detectors are plugged in.
By having the resistors in the Fire Alarm Panel, will indicate that all the zones are 100% perfect when in fact they are not.
All these zones have fault conditions, and will not detect smoke!
To the Landlord it appears that his building and tenants are protected, as the Fire Alarm Panel will not indicate a "fault" condition.
The building on fire is the FNB in Braamfontein.
