🚑 ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS | HEAVY FOG 🌫️
This morning many motorists experienced heavy fog on our roads, especially in and around the Underberg area. Fog may look harmless, but it dramatically reduces visibility and increases the risk of serious accidents.
✅ Drive safely in foggy conditions:
•Slow down and increase following distance
•Use low‑beam headlights (not high beams)
•Avoid sudden braking or overtaking
•Keep your windscreen clear and demisted
•If visibility becomes too poor, pull over safely
🚨 As Emergency Medical Services, we often respond to crashes that could have been prevented by adjusting speed and driving cautiously in poor weather.

Life Support Paramedic / Emergency Care Assistant

Underberg Emergency Medical Services is looking for a committed and community-oriented ILS or ECA to join our dynamic team.

Location: Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal
Contract Type: Full-time (subject to a three-month probation period)
Starting date: Immediately

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure operational readiness of ambulance and equipment for emergency responses
• Deliver patient care in accordance with your scope of practice and HPCSA protocols
• Provide support in the Primary Health Care Clinic when required
• Assist in delivery of First Aid Training courses, when requested
• Provide medical support at local events and special functions
• Promote a positive, professional image of UEMS within the community

Minimum Requirements:
• Valid HPCSA registration as an ILS or ECA
• Valid driver’s license and Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
• Sound knowledge of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice
• Minimum 1-year operational experience in an EMS environment
• Preference will be given to those candidates who have completed their CPG guidelines update

Key Attributes:
• Demonstrated professionalism and composure under pressure
• Ability to complete all patient documentation accurately and comprehensively
• Proficient in both written and spoken English
• Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills

WAKE-UP CALL: GAS LEAK ALMOST TOOK TWO LIVES
A faulty geyser. A silent killer. Two elderly parents. One brave son.

Their story is a stark reminder: gas poisoning can strike anyone, anytime. But with quick thinking and the right actions, tragedy can be averted.

Here's what happened: the son walked into a nightmare ,his parents unconscious, overcome by toxic fumes from a leaking geyser. He sprang into action, dragging them out and giving his mum rescue breaths. A neighbour called for help, and Underberg Emergency Medical Services and Netcare 911 HEMS rushed in. Thanks to their son's and neighbour's quick response, both parents are recovering.
