The ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, through its Department of Planning & Development, participated in the DPWI Waste Recycling Partnership Enhancement Workshop held in Upington today.

The workshop brought together government institutions, industry partners and key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in waste management, recycling initiatives and environmental sustainability.

As a district municipality, we remain committed to supporting innovative waste management solutions, advancing sustainable development, and building cleaner, greener communities across the ZF Mgcawu District.

Today, the Executive Mayor, Councillor Maryna Basson tabled the Final Budget and Integrated Development Plan of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality for the 2026/2027 financial year, reaffirming the District Municipalityโ€™s commitment to responsible governance, financial discipline and continued service delivery despite ongoing economic pressures facing local government across South Africa.

The Budget reflects a focused and realistic approach aimed at protecting the financial stability of the institution while ensuring that communities continue to receive essential services. Cost-containment measures, careful spending priorities and sustainable financial planning remain central to the District Municipalityโ€™s strategy as it navigates a challenging financial environment.

In her address to Council, the Executive Mayor emphasised the importance of integrity, accountability and professional leadership as the current Council term approaches its conclusion ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections. She further called on all political parties to place the interests of communities first and to contribute towards a peaceful, fair and constructive democratic process.

The ZF Mgcawu District Municipality remains committed to serving its communities with dedication and responsibility while continuing to strengthen local government across the district.

Please be informed that the Council Meeting originally scheduled for 29 May 2026 was postponed.

The meeting will reconvene on Friday, 05 June 2026 for the consideration of the following statutory items:

โ€ข Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP)

During the sitting, the Executive Mayor, Councillor Maryna Basson, will deliver the 2026/2027 Budget Speech.

GCIS in the Northern Cape is currently having a capacity building session: integrated communications plan in Upington at the Desert Palace Casino.

The objectives of the workshop is to enhance strategy development and communication planning skills; to align municipal communication planning with the Government Communication Policy. It is also to strengthen coordination and collaboration among Communicators at the district level and strengthen the monitoring and reporting of communication activities.

This will enable Communicators to use Tracker Report to inform communication messages.

Today, the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality participated in the Africa Day celebrations hosted by the Department of Education. Africa Day is commemorated annually to celebrate African unity, culture, heritage and the progress of the continent.

The day was filled with colour, culture and festivities as government departments and municipalities each represented different African countries. ZF Mgcawu proudly represented Mozambique through traditional attire, food and choral performances of the South African National Anthem and the African Union Anthem.

Please note that the Office of the Premier seeks to recruit young people between the ages of 18โ€“35 with a Grade 12 certificate to assist with the 2026 Civic Education Drive.

Applicants may hand-deliver their applications to the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality and place them in the Vota Lutsha Box at Reception. Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form, clearly indicating the District Office and reference number and must be accompanied by a comprehensive CV and all relevant supporting documents.
