3 DAYS. NEW SKILLS. NEW FUTURES: LEJWELEPUTSWA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY EMPOWERS SMMEs WITH PET RECYCLING COMPANY (PETCO)
Behind every unemployment statistic is a person with a dream. This week, Lejweleputswa District Municipality looked those dreams in the eye. Through our partnership with PET Recycling Company (PETCO), we filled the Old Council Chamber with men and women ready to fight for their future. We gave them more than training. We gave them weapons: business skills, compliance knowledge, and Services SETA certificates that open doors. Because at Lejweleputswa District Municipality, we believe your postcode should never decide your potential.
While unemployment continues to rob our youth of dignity, Lejweleputswa District Municipality refused to sit back. Lejweleputswa District Municipality, in partnership with PET Recycling Company (PETCO), brought world-class business training straight to the heart of our communities. Because real change doesn’t wait for permission — it’s built in rooms like this one.
The mission was simple but powerful: turn ideas into income. Equip local SMMEs and new ventures with the skills to run profitable, compliant, and tender-ready businesses. This is PET Recycling Company (PETCO) – Manage Business Operations, Unit Standard 119668, NQF Level 2, 8 Credits, part of the nationally recognized NC: New Venture Creation, SAQA ID 46948 and accredited by Services SETA.
Mr. Orapeleng Manake, Environmental Manager at Lejweleputswa District Municipality, gave the purpose of the training and set the tone on day one. He looked graduates in the eye and said: “PET Recycling Company (PETCO) doesn’t just care about bottles. PET Recycling Company (PETCO) cares about people. Today you’re learning how to control your business, control your money, and control your future. This is how Lejweleputswa District Municipality builds wealth from the ground up.”
For three days, Ms. Nozipho Ntsini from Siyaloba Skills Development pushed participants past theory into real action. They drafted business action plans, learned to chase funding and resources, mastered time like bosses, and built portfolios of evidence that prove they’re ready for big contracts. No fluff. Just skills that pay.
Ms. Bogolo Mapota, Air Quality Officer at Lejweleputswa District Municipality, made sure no one graduates blind to the rules. She broke down environmental compliance so every business built here is built to last and built right.
Today, every participant walked away with their Services SETA certificate in hand. That certificate isn’t just paper — it’s power. Power to tender. Power to employ. Power to change a family’s story.
This is what happens when Lejweleputswa District Municipality and PET Recycling Company (PETCO) invest in people. We don’t just create recycling jobs. We create business owners.
