We need to talk about our children.
Weāve all seen the stories.
Children who disappear.
Children who are abused.
Children who donāt make it home.
Children whose families are left with nothing but questions and heartbreak.
And every time we see another story, we shake our heads, we feel sad, we share the post⦠and then life carries on.
But what if that was our child?
What if it was your daughter?
Your son?
Your grandchild?
Your neighbourās child?
Would we still say, āItās not my problemā?
We can't keep looking away, because your child is my child!
That means we look out for the child walking home alone.
We speak up when something doesnāt feel right.
We donāt ignore signs of abuse.
We teach our children that they can talk to us.
And we stand beside families when they need help.
Our children donāt belong only to their parents. They belong to our community, and their safety is a responsibility we all share.
A child should never have to be afraid in the place they call home or where they are educated.
So I ask every parent, grandparent, neighbour, teacher, auntie and uncle:
Look up. Look around. Know your community. Know your children.
Because sometimes, saving a child starts with simply paying attention.
Your child is my child.
