For Immediate Release!

The Municipality takes time to effect an apology to the public, moreover those who reside in Irvine street and close by areas, Wolmaransstad for the power supply interruption that ensued in the early hours of this morning, consequent to the criminal elements that sought to thieving municipal sub-station feeding our people in Irvine street and surrounding areas, which includes but not limited to Wolmaransstad Correctional Centre and businesses around that area.

The deceased tried to cut cables and other electrical materials for selling out but unfortunately he met his untimely death as a result of the heavy current of the power supply in the sub-station, we call on our communities to remain vigilant during this season as these incidents will be recurring by these criminal elements, we must guard our infrastructure at all costs as it is eating at the fiscus that is supposed to effect other service delivery priorities.

We deposit our deepest heart felt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased. We hope that this occurrence posits as a lesson to those who are hellbent on destroying our infrastructure for nefarious purposes.

The Municipality takes no responsibility for reckless behaviour by inconsiderate members of the community, the security cluster and other stakeholders will then take it from here and all of us will play their part.

As we built better, and safer communities for the benefit of all.

As part of the government's priorities, and service standards the department of Human Settlements at national, provincial, the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality and the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality today will host the Minister of Human Settlements, Hon. Thembi Simelane to issue out the title deeds to housing beneficiaries across the Municipality; the main event will be staged at Lebaleng sports ground later on during the day...

Herein, the political leadership was receiving a briefing on developments on the housing backlogs, challenges and possible solutions to the quagmire that has engulfed the Municipality in the recent past...

SPECIAL LOCAL COUNCIL MEETING NO 16/2025/2026...

The Municipal Council of the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality had met today to table and resolve many issues in relation to governance matters around the Municipality, key amongst discussion was the tabling of the 3rd quarter service delivery performance report; which in-depth zoomed into the pace at which we are heralding services to our consumers, the report was tabled as part of assessment of our performance, capacity of our department of engineering to foster the required delivery levels and self introspect by the Municipality on key developmental priorities and the rendering of basic services to our people.

Council took a stride also at the vast land that is of no economic use and resolved to rezone the same for both economic sustainability and human settlements purposes and this caters for the cries of our people, in many communities on the availability of land for both communal and developmental purposes.

And, finally Council dealt with in-house issues, which at the moment are subjudicare and are not open for public scrutiny, however, in the not so distant future, Council will effect it's progress on the same.

We, continue to work hard as this administration to the betterment of our communities and in this effort we invite the public to walk with us creating a better Municipality to the benefit of all, however, must appreciate that in the process to accelerate the Municipality to greater heights we will stumble and fall along the footpath but there's a great opening at the end of the tunnel, we shall arrive safely in our intended destiny, we once more wish to thank our people for traversing this journey with us it was never, easy and no bed of roses is promised, we see the clouds clearing and the skies opening up, we surely shall triumph against all the adversaries who seeks to misdirect our efforts towards a total victory for all...

The Municipality took time off to celebrate in remembrance of the life and times of Kgotso Collin Dimo who was an employee of the Municipality, serving as PMU Technician and had other duly charged responsibilities as part of ensuring that we placed the delivery of services at the heart of our operations...

K.C. Dimo was remembered as a committed, hardworking and disciplined individual who placed the need to deliver service before any interest, he was remembered for his deep love for his siblings, wife and family; both his maternal and paternal families enjoined the Municipality in celebrating his well lived short life...

We pour our hearts out to his family, wife, siblings, friends and accomplices who had lived with him...
