CHIBOMBO TOWN COUNCIL SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH RURAL ELECTRIFICATION AUTHORITY.

Chibombo,Thursday, 9th February,2023. Chibombo Town Council (CTC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rural Electrification Authority (REA) to help increase access to electricity in Katuba Constituency, Chibombo District.

Chibombo district is largely rural and the partnership will help meet the aspirants of the two institutions which is to enable people of Chibombo access electricity.

The signing ceremony took place on 28th, January, 2023 at Chibombo Town council sub-office in Katuba and indicated the official start for the implementation of the Priority Rural Electrification Projects (PREPS) making the local authority first in the country to sign the MoU among 40 others that REA intends to embark on.

The PREPs project was arrived at when CTC and the Office of the Member of Parliament engaged REA to assist lit up properties that urgently needed electricity to enhance the daily activities that would eventually lead to the boosting of the economy in the district.

The Local authority listed out thirty six (36) institutions as part of Priority Electrification Projects (PREPs) in Katuba constituency with an estimated electrification cost of One Hundred Million Kwacha.

In welcoming REA delegation, Chibombo Town Council Secretary Stanley Mbewe stressed out that partnering with REA will not only benefit the people of Katuba but the nation at large. He also pointed out that for the 8NDPs to be realized in the world where technology is advancing everyday, demand for electricity to drive the economy of Chibombo was key and that the MoU came at a right time.

Chibombo Town Council has a mandate to provide better services and is open to partner with other institutions like REA in improving the livelihoods of the residents including those in remote areas of the district.
