CHITAMBO CHAIRPERSON HIGHLIGHT SUCCESSES AS HE BIDS FAREWELL
Parliament is likely to be dissolved this coming week. This will mark the end of the five-year period for local government leaders, and it will also make way for elections on August 13, 2026.
The local authority has held its last council meeting, where different decisions were made before parliament is dissolved in the next five days.
In his farewell speech, Chitambo Chairperson Mr. Brian Mwelwa talked about the good work his council did during his time as Chairperson. He thanked the government for the support, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.
Among the achievements mentioned, he said that during his leadership, the district received classroom blocks, health posts, desks, water reticulation systems, and road infrastructure projects.
He also said that women and young people were supported with grants and loans to help them grow existing businesses and to start new ones. The Chairperson added that thousands of vulnerable people in Chitambo benefited from cash for work programs during his time.
On water supply, he explained that through his discussions with the Lukanga Water and Sewerage Company, a commercial borehole was drilled. He said it is now waiting to be equipped and connected to the supply system.
He then asked government officers in the district to forgive him in case they were harmed or affected while he was carrying out his duties. He also wished the councillors well as they prepare for the upcoming campaigns.
The Council Secretary Mr. Mwiche I Mudala thanked the Chairperson and the councillors for the good teamwork and cooperation during the five-year term.
The Acting District Commissioner, Mr. Anderson Charles and other district government officials attended the meeting.
