BRRA ENGAGES KALOMO BUSINESS COMMUNITY ON REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT

The Business Regulatory Review Agency (BRRA) today held an engagement meeting with some members of the Kalomo business community to discuss the business regulatory environment and challenges affecting local businesses.

Before the meeting, the BRRA delegation paid a courtesy call on Kalomo Town Council Secretary, Mr. Trophius Kufanga, who welcomed the team to the district.

The delegation later proceeded to Catholic Hall, where the Council Secretary was represented by the Director of Human Resource and Administration, Mr Melvin Kalumba, who welcomed the participants and officially opened the engagement.

In his remarks, the Director encouraged greater participation from the wider business community in future engagements, noting that such meetings provide an important platform for businesses to raise concerns and contribute towards improving the local business environment.

Speaking during the meeting, BRRA Executive Director Mrs. Sharon C. K. Sichilongo said the Agency was in Kalomo to understand the conditions under which businesses operate and identify areas where regulatory processes could be simplified and improved.

She noted that Kalomo’s strategic location along the Lusaka–Livingstone corridor, coupled with its strong agriculture and livestock sectors, presents opportunities for trade, agro-processing, value addition and investment.

Members of the business community were also given an opportunity to raise concerns and share their experiences. BRRA assured participants that the issues raised would be documented and relevant institutions engaged to help improve the business environment.

KALOMO TOWN COUNCIL FIRE BRIGADE SENSITIZES TRADERS AT BWACHA MARKET

Kalomo Town Council Fire Brigade conducted a fire safety sensitization with traders at Bwacha Market in Mwaata Ward, aimed at enhancing awareness on fire prevention, safety and emergency response.

During the sensitization, the Fire Brigade highlighted common causes of fires, including careless disposal of lit ci******es, overloading of electrical points and circuits, and deliberate burning of waste materials or rubbish.

Traders were encouraged to have portable fire extinguishers in their shops and were guided on how to use them correctly. They were also advised to avoid leaving candles and braziers unattended, as these can easily cause fires.

The Fire Brigade further explained emergency procedures to follow in the event of a fire, including raising the alarm, calling the Fire Brigade, evacuating to safety, closing doors and windows where appropriate, proceeding to a designated assembly point and conducting a roll call.

The community was also informed that the Fire Brigade responds to various emergencies beyond structural fires, including road traffic accidents, drowning incidents, bush fires, house and building fires, as well as motor vehicle fires.

The Fire Brigade also shared its emergency contact line: 0974 517 666, encouraging members of the public to immediately contact the brigade whenever emergency assistance is required.
