We have received with deep sadness the passing of His Majesty Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV of the Ngoni people.

His Majesty was a revered custodian of Ngoni culture and heritage, and a unifying symbol of Zambia's rich cultural diversity. His distinguished service and leadership will remain an enduring part of our national heritage.

As we mourn this great loss, the nation stands united with the Ngoni Royal Establishment, the bereaved family, and the entire Ngoni people.

DO NOT USE GOVERNMENT VEHICLES TO CARRY GOATS, ACTING PS WARNS OFFICERS.

Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary Ms.Beauty Undi Phiri has issued a stern warning to officers who are fond of misusing government vehicles in the province saying once found wanting they will not go Scott free.

Speaking when she handed over 4 brand new vehicles to the ministry of education, Ms.Undi-Phiri said that government vehicles are meant to service residents in a given location and not for personal use.

For easy inspection and monitoring the government has handed over vehicles to Lunte, Nsama and Senga Hill districts respectively.

And Ms Undi-Phiri said the vehicles will help especially that the Terran in these districts are bad and sometimes not easy to access schools that are in far flung areas.

Meanwhile, Provincial Education officer Mulambwa Nawa assured that the vehicles will be used for the intended purpose.

MARKING AFRICA FREEDOM DAY IN NORTHERN PROVINCE.

As Zambia joins the rest of Africa in commemorating Africa Freedom Day, Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary, Ms. Beauty Undi-Phiri, has called for continued unity and oneness across Africa in order to secure water in the region.

To honor the liberation heroes, Ms. Undi-Phiri led the solemn laying of wreaths at the cenotaph in Kasama District earlier today.

This year’s Africa Freedom Day is being commemorated under the critical theme: "Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063."

K18.6M CDF BOOST: CHILUBI DISTRICT COMMISSIONS 12 MAJOR ROAD AND EDUCATION PROJECTS

Twelve strategic community development projects worth K18,603,966.54 have been officially commissioned in Chilubi District.

Funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the newly launched initiatives in are set to transform road infrastructure and expand educational access across both the mainland and island regions of the district.

In a speech read on behalf of Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary, Chilubi District Commissioner Risto Mushembe said that the machinery is expected to significantly improve feeder road rehabilitation and maintenance across both the mainland and island parts of the district.

The commissioned projects comprised five earth-moving machines and seven classroom infrastructure projects funded under the Constituency Development Fund allocation.

Earth-moving equipment, procured at a total cost of K13,920,210.54, included a Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB), a grader, an excavator, and two roller compactors.

Seven classroom infrastructure projects commissioned at a total cost of K4,683,747.10 included the construction and rehabilitation of classroom blocks in various wards. These projects included the construction of classroom blocks at Kasanda, Mumbebwe Primary School, Chitupila, Kashimwe Community School, and Fube Secondary School, as well as rehabilitation works at Bulilo and Kanshishe schools.

Mr. Mushembe praised Government for its continued commitment to taking development closer to the people through the enhanced Constituency Development Fund.

He noted that the projects would improve service delivery and uplift the welfare of communities in the district.

He stressed that the assets belong to the people of Chilubi and must be safeguarded and utilised responsibly for the benefit of the community.

Meanwhile His Royal Highness Chief Chiwanangala thanked government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema for increasing the people-driven Constituency Development Fund, which continues to transform communities through improved infrastructure and development initiatives.

OVER 25,000 CATTLE VACCINATED AGAINST FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE IN MBALA AND SENGA HILL DISTRICTS.

Northern Province has so far vaccinated 25,500 cattle against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Mbala and Senga Hill Districts during the first quarter of 2026 and part of the second quarter.

The vaccination exercise forms part of ongoing government efforts aimed at protecting cattle and other livestock from the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease, which continues to pose a serious threat to the livestock sector and the livelihoods of farmers.

Mbala and Senga Hill Districts were specifically targeted because of their proximity to international borders.

The Province continues to experience movement of animals from neighbouring countries, thereby increasing the risk of disease transmission.

The Provincial Administration remains committed to strengthening disease surveillance, prevention, and control measures in order to safeguard the livestock industry and ensure food security in the region.

Members of the public, especially livestock farmers, are therefore encouraged to cooperate with veterinary officers and continue adhering to all livestock health guidelines issued by the authorities.

CHIEF MWAMBA DIDN'T JUST RULE, HE SERVED.

Government has joined the royal family, traditional leaders and the people of Mbala district in bidding farewell to His Royal Highness Chief Mwamba of the Mambwe-speaking people.

Speaking during the burial ceremony, Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary Ms. Undi-Phiri described the late Chief’s passing on 14th May 2026 as a profound void for the province and the nation at large.

She recalled that his remarkable decade-long reign since 2016, Chief Mwamba skillfully balanced tradition with national development, fostering unity, peace, and progress.

"His leadership was rooted in service, not privilege. He walked among his people, listened to their concerns, and worked tirelessly to uplift their lives,"she said.

The Acting Permanent Secretary said His Royal Highness' exceptional collaboration with the Government in advancing healthcare, education, and agriculture, as well as his unwavering respect for the rule of law should be commended.

Further, she reminded the community and the province at large to honor his memory by continuing his work to build a cohesive community where every voice is heard.

As the nation enters the official campaign period, I wish to assure the country that Zambia shall remain peaceful, orderly, and secure.

Democracy requires robust debate and the free exchange of ideas. However, no action that threatens peace, unity, public order, or national security shall be tolerated. The law shall apply firmly, fairly, and without favour to all, regardless of political affiliation or social standing. Any individual or group found wanting by the law, from whatever political persuasion, including members of our own party, will be on their own.

I have therefore directed all law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert and to ensure a peaceful environment before, during, and after the elections. Law-abiding citizens are assured of the State’s full protection throughout the entire electoral process.

GOVERNMENT MOURNS THE PASSING OF HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS CHIEF MWAMBA OF THE MAMBWE PEOPLE

The Government of the Republic of Zambia has expressed profound sadness over the passing of His Royal Highness Chief Mwamba of the Mambwe-speaking people of Mbala District.

The revered traditional leader passed away on Thursday, 14th May, 2026, at Mbala General Hospital, where he was receiving medical care.

Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary, Ms. Beauty Undi-Phiri, conveyed the government's deepest condolences to the royal family, the Chiefdom, and the entire Mambwe community during this time of profound grief.

She described the late traditional leader as a pillar of peace, unity, and a dedicated partner in driving rural development in the province.

The Government notes with immense gratitude the late Chief Mwamba’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of his subjects and his collaborative efforts with local authorities to improve livelihoods, promote education, and preserve cultural heritage. His leadership and wisdom will be deeply missed.

Further details regarding the funeral and burial arrangements will be communicated in due course as the government joins the Chiefdom in honoring the legacy of the late traditional leader.

GOVERNMENT COMMISSIONS OVER K21.4 MILLION WORTH OF CDF INFRASTRUCTURE AND EARTH-MOVING EQUIPMENT IN LUPOSOSHI DISTRICT

LUPOSOSHI – 16th May, 2026.

In a landmark move toward rural transformation, the Government has officially commissioned and handed over various infrastructure projects and a fleet of earth-moving equipment valued at K21, 401,276.18 million in Lupososhi District.

Among the notable infrastructure projects is a newly constructed maternity wing in Mulala Chiefdom, which will provide local women with immediate access to maternal healthcare, eliminating the need to walk long distances.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary, Ms. Beauty Undi-Phiri, stated that the commissioned projects are a direct realization of President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision to deliver equitable development to every corner of Zambia through decentralization.

Additionally, Ms. Undi-Phiri officially handed over a newly built 1x2 classroom block at Lwenge Primary School to boost local education.

The massive investment, funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), also includes essential machinery such as a grader, tipper truck, roller compactor, excavator, and water bowser truck.

“The new earth-moving equipment will be pivotal in rehabilitation works for the district’s feeder road network, which serves as the backbone for agricultural productivity and economic growth”,she said.

She underscored that the K21,401,276.18 investment is intended to restore hope, unlock rural connectivity, and ensure that the benefits of national economic transformation are felt directly at the household level.

Meanwhile, Sub-Chief Mulala of the Mulala Chiefdom commended the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema for prioritizing development in the area.

The traditional leader noted that it is a privilege to have a government that does not segregate any region when distributing national resources, adding that the new projects will significantly uplift the lives of his subjects.

As Parliament has adjourned, I wish to take this moment to sincerely thank the Republican President Mr.Hakainde Hichilema, for the opportunity to serve the people of Northern Province.

To the good people of Northern Province thank you for the trust, support, and cooperation you have given me throughout my time serving as your Minister and representative.

Serving the people of Northern Province has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Together, we have shared challenges, celebrated progress, and worked tirelessly towards development and a better future for our communities. Your resilience, unity, and commitment to progress continue to inspire me every day.

I remain deeply grateful to our traditional leaders, the church, media, youths, women, civil servants, party structures, and every citizen who contributed in one way or another to the work we have done together.

Though this chapter closes with the dissolution of Parliament, my commitment to the people of Northern Province remains unwavering. Leadership is a continuous journey of service, and I will always stand ready to contribute to the welfare and development of our province and our beloved nation.

As we enter a new democratic season, I encourage everyone to remain peaceful, united, and focused on the values that bind us together as one people.
