Livingstone City Council is now receiving applications for the renewal of business levy, liquor, fire and health permits for 2027.

Traders and business owners are urged to apply by 31st October 2026 to avoid a K1,000 late penalty.

Zamtel has paid a courtesy call on His Worship the Mayor Bright Hanakamba, expressing its readiness to partner with Livingstone City Council in advancing the goals of the Grow Zambia Agenda.

The Mayor welcomed the engagement, emphasising the importance of supporting local companies and fostering partnerships that contribute to the development of Livingstone District.

He noted that the Council remains open to collaborating with partners who can support its efforts to keep Livingstone clean and green while contributing to the district’s overall development.

The engagement highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in promoting sustainable development and improving service delivery.

Livingstone City Council has undertaken pothole repair works at the traffic light junction along Nakatindi Road, addressing the road defect that had prompted a public notice on the temporary road closure.

The works form part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to improve road conditions and enhance the safety of motorists and other road users.

The Council appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during the works.

LIVINGSTONE CITY COUNCIL DISPOSES OFF SEIZED FOOD ITEMS AND ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Livingstone City Council has disposed of assorted food items and alcoholic beverages seized during a weekend enforcement operation in Chandamali, Potters and Choppies areas.

The operation was conducted by a combined team of State Police, Council Police and officers from the Public Health Department. During the operation, assorted food items were seized from vendors, while alcoholic beverages were confiscated from shebeens and shops found selling liquor without valid liquor licences.

The items, valued at approximately K5,400, were seized in accordance with Section 43 of the Food Safety Act No. 7 of 2019 and Section 47 of the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011.

Following the operation, the Council obtained a court order authorising the disposal of the seized items. The disposal was carried out at the dumpsite today in the presence of Court Officers, State Police and Council Officers.

Livingstone City Council urges all food vendors and liquor traders to comply with public health regulations and liquor licensing requirements. Traders selling alcoholic beverages are reminded to obtain valid liquor licences before engaging in such business.

The Council remains committed to safeguarding public health, enforcing compliance with the law and promoting responsible trading practices across the city.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has today commenced the orientation of Mayors, Council Secretaries, Councillors, Directors and other Council officers.

The orientation has brought together different Councils from Southern and Western Provinces and is being held in Livingstone.

The programme was headed by the Western Province Principal Local Government Officer (PLGO).

The objective of the orientation is to equip elected leaders and officers with a clear understanding of their roles, enhance good governance, and strengthen service delivery in line with the Local Government Act and other guiding regulations.

In his address, the Western Province PLGO underscored the importance of collaboration between political leadership and technocrats, adherence to procedures, and commitment to serving communities with integrity and accountability.

The orientation covers key areas including roles and responsibilities of Councillors and officers, decentralization policy, financial management, procurement, and the code of ethics for public service.

Livingstone City Council welcomes all participating local authorities to Livingstone and wishes them a productive orientation.

Livingstone City Council wishes to inform the general public that a section of Nakatindi Road, near the traffic light junction, will be temporarily closed to facilitate pothole repair works.
