CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS ON COPPERBELT URGED TO UPHOLD PROFESSIONALISM AND SUPPORT GOVERNMENT

KITWE – Zambia Correctional Service Commission Chairperson, Mr. Evaristo Kalonga, has urged correctional officers on the Copperbelt to uphold discipline, professionalism, and ethical conduct in the ex*****on of their duties.

Addressing officers from various districts at Kamfinsa Correctional Facility during the Commission’s 18-day working visit to the province, Mr. Kalonga said moral uprightness and integrity remain central to the effective operations of the Service.

He further called on officers to demonstrate patriotism and allegiance to the President and Commander-in-Chief, in accordance with the Constitution.

Mr. Kalonga also delivered a message of reassurance to inmates, stating that Government has taken responsibility for the children they left behind through the Free Education Policy and the School Feeding Programme.
"The message to our inmates is simple: while in incarceration, Government has taken care of your children through free education and school feeding. Remain with a free mind and do not worry about school fees as you serve your sentences," he said.

He further encouraged inmates to form cooperatives upon discharge in order to access the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and undertake projects such as poultry and dairy farming. This, he said, would help reduce recidivism.

As part of the engagement, the Commission promoted over 40 officers to various senior ranks.

I took time with Commissioner Angela Mulenga to stop in Mishikishi and appreciate the construction of the new Ndola–Lusaka Dual Carriageway on the Copperbelt.

Under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, we have a government that is delivering development.

This afternoon Commissioner Angela Mulenga and I visited Belvedere Lodge along Leopards Hill Road in Kabulonga ,Lusaka where the official funeral gathering of Dr. Guy Scott who served as Republican Vice-President of Zambia from 2011 to 2014 is being held.

As commissioners under the Office of the President, our heartfelt condolences to his widow Mrs Charlotte Scott and surviving children and the people of Zambia.

May his soul rest in peace.

TRADITIONAL CHIEFS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN GOVERNANCE

I paid a courtesy call on His Royal Highness Senior Chief Tafuna-Chimwando II of the Lungu-speaking people ,Mpulungu District, Northern Province .

This year on the 25th and 26th September, 2026 the Lungu/Tabwa speaking people are having the Walamo Traditional Ceremony. The ceremony presided over by Senior Chief Tafuna, the festival honors ancestors, celebrates historical tribal war victories, and marks the beginning of the fishing season on Lake Tanganyika.

The Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) exhibition stand continues to draw high-profile visitors and members of the public at the ongoing African Public Service Week at East Park Mall Piazza in Lusaka.

Yesterday's notable visitors included Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Dr. Max Choombe ; Chairperson of the Zambia Correctional Service Commission, Mr. Evaristo Kalonga,Commissioner Bweembelo Munazemba ; and Commissioner Administration, Ms. Martha Ngoma. Touring the stand, the dignitaries commended ZCS for showcasing its contributions to national development through rehabilitation, skills training, agricultural production, and community-based correctional programmes.

The exhibition gives the public a chance to engage directly with officers and learn about ZCS's mandate, its approach to offender rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into society. Visitors can also explore the Service's empowerment initiatives, agricultural projects, and extension services.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the ZCS stand to learn more about its transformative programmes and correctional reforms, and the role the Service plays in promoting public safety and national development. Fresh vegetables, onions, and Kalonga Mealie Meal , all produced through ZCS agricultural ventures ,are also available for purchase.

African Public Service Week continues to offer public institutions a platform to engage citizens, showcase innovations, and strengthen partnerships that enhance service delivery and drive sustainable national development.
