IDC expects to be instrumental in the establishment of industries across the agriculture, livestock and forestry value chains, tourism, manufacturing, mining, infrastructure and financial services. IDC is one of the key implementing agencies of the Zambian

Government’s Industrialization and Job Creation Strategy with identified growth sectors as drivers. IDC actively identifies investment opportunities for sector development in line with GRZ policy objectives and plays a catalytic role by developing projects either on its own or in partnership with private sector players and other development oriented agencies.

IDC WINS BEST AGRO VALUE ADDITION AWARD

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has won the Best Agro Value Addition Award in the Agriculture Category at the 98th Agriculture and Commercial Show, in recognition of the work being done through Kawambwa Tea Industries Limited (KTIL) and Chitambo Agro Processing.

At our pavilion, we showcased how KTIL's new 50-metric-tonnes-per-day processing factory is strengthening the company's competitive future, boosting value addition, production capacity, supply chains and market linkages.

For Chitambo, we highlighted how raw cassava is being transformed into a range of high-value products: Cassava Meal (for the hospitality industry, chain stores, ethanol producers and households), Cassava Flour (for confectioneries, soup producers, and noodle and pasta manufacturers), and Cassava Starch (for food producers, pharmaceuticals, paper manufacturers and textiles).

It is a proud reflection of our commitment to driving agro-value addition and industrialisation across Zambia.

THE NUMBERS BEHIND IDC’S MISSION

During the IDC-sponsored luncheon at the 98th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show, our Chief Finance Officer Mr. Raphael Chipoma put real figures behind this year’s theme “Fostering Trade and Investment”

Since 2019, IDC has channelled over K5.1 billion into its subsidiaries through shareholder loans, loan guarantees, bridging finance and working capital, across energy, manufacturing, agriculture and forestry, transport and communication, financial services, and tourism and hospitality.

However, we haven’t stopped at strengthening what exists. We’ve directly invested K1.6 billion in building entirely new companies, including Ngonye and Bangweulu Power Companies (our solar energy portfolio), Zambia Airways, Infratel, Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank, Chitambo Agro Processing, and Eastern Tropical Fruits, among others.

Of all that investment, K1.3 billion has gone directly into agriculture. This demonstrates that our goal has never been just about the balance sheet.

Every company we build is designed to catalyse investment, especially in rural areas the private sector often overlooks. When IDC sets up a new business, we’re not just creating one company — we’re building an entire value chain. Suppliers. Transporters. Distributors. Retailers. Opportunity, ripple by ripple, in the communities that need it most.

At the end of the day, the real measure of our work isn’t in the figures. It’s in the lives changed along the way.

Thank you to everyone who has visited our pavilion at the Showgrounds for the 98th Agricultural and Commercial Show!

We’ve loved every conversation and the genuine interest in learning more about what we do at the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

Today we had the privilege of welcoming Mr Siazongo Siakalenge, Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet for Finance and Economic Development, and his entourage. Our Chief Corporate Services Officer Mr Jetty Lungu and our Chief Investments Officer Mr Mainga Mukando were also on hand to engage with our exhibitors at the pavilion.

LS-MFEZ DECLARES K10.4 MILLION DIVIDEND TO IDC

The Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ) has declared a dividend of K10.4 million to the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), marking the fifth consecutive year the company has rewarded its shareholder with a payout.

The cheque was handed over during a ceremony held earlier today, presided over by LS-MFEZ Board Chairperson Mr Boster Chiyaba and received by IDC CEO Mr Cornwell Muleya. Also present were representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry.

Speaking at the event, Mr Chiyaba said the dividend reflected the company’s continued ability to create sustainable value despite a challenging operating environment in 2025. During the year, LS-MFEZ recorded revenue of over ZMW151 million, gross profit of ZMW89.7 million, operating profit of ZMW20.2 million and net profit of ZMW23.2 million for the 2025 financial year.

Mr Chiyaba noted that cumulative dividends declared by LS-MFEZ over the past five years now stand at ZMW24.3 million, up from ZMW10.2 million declared in 2024.

He added that LS-MFEZ had attracted cumulative investments exceeding USD2.07 billion by the end of 2025, comprising 168 approved investments and creating more than 38,000 jobs.

Receiving the dividend, Mr Muleya congratulated the board, management and staff of LS-MFEZ, describing the declaration as evidence of value creation, sound governance and disciplined ex*****on.

Mr Muleya urged the LS-MFEZ board and management to sustain the momentum by prioritising infrastructure investment, improved investor service delivery, prudent financial management and strong corporate governance, saying these would help build a resilient, self-sustaining business that delivers even greater returns and developmental impact for Zambia.
