The Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) is participating in the Africa Public Service Week, currently taking place at Paiza East Park, under the theme:
“Enhancing Public Sector Institutions and Empowering Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Safe Sanitation by 2063.”
This theme calls on teachers to extend their role beyond classroom instruction by actively creating awareness, promoting good hygiene and sanitation practices, collaborating with key stakeholders, and nurturing learners who will contribute to achieving universal access to safe water and sanitation for all by 2063. Through their influence in schools and communities, teachers play a vital role in advancing sustainable development and fostering a healthier future for generations to come.

SENSITIZATION MEETING ON THE TEACHING PROFESSION ACT NO. 1 OF 2026
The Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) convened a sensitization meeting on the newly enacted Teaching Profession Act No. 1 of 2026, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders from the education sector. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Education, teacher unions, civil society organizations, universities, and colleges of education.
The meeting was graced by the acting Registrar, Mary Sifuniso who underscored the importance of the Act, noting that it will strengthen the regulation of the teaching profession, enhance professional standards, promote accountability, and uphold the status of teaching as a respected and regulated profession.
She said that the act strengthened the mandate of the Council in regulating teachers, overseeing professional conduct, and promoting high standards of professionalism within the education sector.
“It is important to note that many of the reforms introduced under the teaching profession act No. 1 of 2026 aligns with international best practices in teacher regulation and professional development by introducing licensure examination, annual renewal of practicing licenses, and strengthened professional standards” she said.
She finally urged educators to fully understand the legal and professional standards that governed the profession if quality education is to be achieved through professional development of teachers throughout Zambia.

Teaching Council of Zambia Registrar Participates in IFTRA Conference

The Registrar of the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) and President of the Africa Federation for Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA), Dr. Ebby Mubanga, is attending the International Forum of Teacher Regulatory Authorities (IFTRA) Conference, a premier global platform for teacher regulatory bodies.

IFTRA brings together teacher regulatory authorities from across the world to collaborate, share experiences, and exchange best practices in teacher regulation and professional standards. The forum was first convened in 2007 by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in partnership with teacher regulatory authorities from Europe, North America, Africa, the Caribbean, and Australasia.

Since its inception, IFTRA conferences have been hosted by various teacher regulatory organizations, including the General Teaching Council for Wales (2009), the South African Council for Educators (2011), the Ontario College of Teachers, Canada (2014), the Teaching Council of Ireland (2016), the Teaching Council of New Zealand (2018), and most recently the Australasia Teacher Regulatory Authorities (ATRA), hosted by the Queensland College of Teachers, Australia (2024).

IFTRA's membership consists exclusively of accredited teacher regulatory organizations at continental, national, and sub-national levels. Participation in the forum is therefore through officially accredited delegates representing member organizations.
