The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) is chairing this year's national organising committee for the World Food Safety Day.

Theme: "From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere"

Secretariat for this year's organising committee: Ministry of Health.

Food safety refers to a holistic approach to controlling and managing food safety hazards.

This spans from sourcing of raw materials, storage, processing, packaging and labelling, among others, in a bid to prevent foodborne illness.

Foodborne diseases are illnesses that are caused by consuming foods and beverages that are contaminated with bacteria, parasites, viruses etc.

The right to safe food is a fundamental human right. Consumption of Unsafe food can cause serious illnesses and even death especially in Children, the elderly and anyone with health
risks.

Thus food safety saves lives. It also protects businesses from costly recalls and keeps consumer trust high. Safe food means healthier communities and stronger economies.

ZCSA plays a critical role in ensuring that your food is safe through inspections of local food factories, inspection of imported foods, and continuous market surveillance inspections.

The Agency enforces compulsory standards to ensure the food we eat meets strict safety requirements.

Beyond health, these standards boost consumer confidence and help local businesses thrive.

So whether you’re buying mealie meal, biscuits, peanut butter, wheat flour, cooking oil, jams, milk products, groundnuts, yoghurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, canned baby foods, processed meat and poultry products, tomato products, or simply grabbing a bottle of packaged water or energy drink or opaque beer or clear beer or potable spirit or table wine or fruit flavored drink etc, remember that ZCSA is keeping your food and beverages safe for human consumption.
