NYAMULA NAMAYO INITIATIVE CALLS FOR ADOPTION OF MORE WOMEN FOR THE FORTH COMING GENERAL ELECTIONS.

Nyamula Namayo initiative has called on political parties to adopt more women at parliamentary, mayoral/council chairperson and councilor levels so as to increase women representation in parliament and councils.

Zambia has signed several international and regional agreements to support gender parity in decision making such as the;
• SADC Protocol on Gender and Development
• AU Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa
• Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action
• Gender Equity and Equality Act No. 22 of 2015
• Constitution Amendment Act No. 13 of 2025 (Bill 7)
In spite of all these and more agreements being in place, Zambia still, sadly lags behind in gender parity in parliament with only 25 women in the current parliament translating into 15%. We therefore urge political parties to take deliberate steps to adopt more women aspiring candidates not only for parliamentary seats but mayoral/council chair persons and councillors as well.
Care must also be taken to ensure women that have been present and consistently campaigning in their constituencies and wards for a long time are given priority in adoptions. Those responsible for adoptions must not look at the highest bidder (those who can buy their adoptions through bribes) as this trend disadvantages women who mostly can’t compete with the financial muscle of their male counterparts.

Nyamula Namayo Initiative urges women to support and vote for their fellow women. Women are the majority voters there is therefore, no reason why they should be the minority in parliament and councils. It is time women believed in themselves and each other and take their rightful seats at the decision making table.

We appreciate President Hakainde Hichilema and the current Members of Parliament for passing into law the Constitution Amendment Act No. 13 of 2025 (Bill 7), which guarantees 20 seats for women in parliament. This Law is indeed progressive as it seeks to achieve gender parity in parliament. We currently have only one nominated female member of parliament but with this law, we will now have 20 women nominated in the next parliament. With this law in place we are steadily heading towards achieving 50% women representation in parliament.

It must be noted however that achieving gender parity in political leadership begins at adoption stage, if we miss it at adoption level as a country, then we will go into another 5 years singing the same song of how low women representation is in our parliament and councils.

ZELIPA CHITSULO DONATES K20,000 TO FOOTBALL TEAMS.
Lumezi South Constituency aspiring candidate Zelipa Chitsulo donates K20,000 for a football tournament. The tournament, which was held on April 24th, 2026, received sponsorship from the aspiring lawmaker in form of football kits, jerseys and prize money for four winning teams. Each team walked away with K2000 in prize money.

The aspiring lawmaker congratulated the teams and noted that there is so much untapped talent in Lumezi. She reviewed that she is concluding talks with an invester to put up a Sports Facility in Lumezi which will be the first of its kind. She encouraged the players to work hard as it is only through hard work that they can find themselves playing for bigger teams or, indeed, the National Team.

Hon Zelipa Chitsulo is contesting as Member of Parliament for the newly created Lumezi South Constituency in Lumezi district.

Fellow Party Members,

My name is Patricia Kamanga, a proud and dedicated member of UPND since 2000,having joined the party. My journey with the party has been one of loyalty, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of democracy, unity, and national development.

I am deeply passionate about youth welfare, community empowerment, and grassroots mobilization. Over the years, I have actively contributed to strengthening our party structures and uplifting our members through meaningful initiatives.

During the previous elections, I played a key role in mobilizing funds in the UPND diaspora, successfully coordinating fundraising efforts that supported critical party activities. Notably, I contributed to raising funds for the feeding program at polling stations across the country, ensuring our agents and volunteers were supported as they safeguarded our victory.

In addition, I have supported aspiring candidates by sourcing campaign materials and providing logistical assistance, demonstrating my commitment to building a strong and united party at all levels.

Beyond political work, I bring a wealth of professional experience as a seasoned Professional Executive Assistant,having worked with reputable institutions such as UNDP, ILO, World Bank, UNICEF, the European Union, COMESA, Harvard University, Global 2000 a project by Frm President Jimmy Cater, various embassies, and other donor organizations. This experience has equipped me with strong organizational, administrative, and leadership skills that I am ready to bring to the National Management Committee.

During challenging times under the previous regime, I supported incarcerated youths and supported the empowerment of families of comrades who lost their lives during our struggle for democracy. I remain committed to ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten and that their families continue to be supported.

I stand before you as a servant leader, ready to work tirelessly to strengthen our party, promote inclusivity, and advance the welfare of our members—especially the youth and vulnerable communities.

I humbly seek your support for my candidature to the National Management Committee.

🕊️Statement by Nyamula Namayo Initiative on the Killing of a Woman (Helen Kamutumbe) in Kalumbila 🕊️

The Nyamula Namayo Initiative strongly condemns the brutal killing of Eneless Helen Kamutumbe she was a daughter, sister, mother, wife a Zambian woman by an angry mob in Kalumbila District over allegations of practicing magic.

This horrific act is a grave violation of fundamental human rights, particularly the right to life, dignity, and protection from inhuman and degrading treatment as enshrined in the Constitution of Zambia and affirmed under the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We reiterate that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands. Mob justice undermines the rule of law and erodes the very fabric of our society.

We call upon law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate this crime and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice.

We further urge communities to reject harmful beliefs and practices that fuel violence, especially against women, and to uphold respect for human dignity, equality, and justice for all.

NYAMULA NAMAYO INITIATIVE CAUTIONS FEMALE ASPIRING CANDIDATES TO BE WARE OF MALE POLITICIANS WHO MAY WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM DURING THE ADOPTION PROCESS.

Nyamula Namayo initiative has cautioned female aspiring candidates to be aware of male politicians who may take advantage of them in exchange of adoption certificates. Women should not sell themselves short but must realize that they are equal partners and they too have every right to aspire for political leadership without being sexually harassed or intimidated. Female aspiring candidates should hold themselves in high esteem and should not tolerate men that make sexual advances at them promising them adoption favours in exchange.

The leadership of Hakainde Hichilema has fostered an enabling and conducive environment for female aspiring candidates to actively participate in governance and leadership. In line with global principles, the United Nations affirms that “women’s equal participation and leadership in political and public life are essential to achieving sustainable development, peace and democracy.”
In this regard, the Nyamula Namayo Initiative urges women to remain steadfast in upholding their integrity and dignity throughout the adoption process, which continues to be largely dominated by men.. We strongly encourage all aspiring female candidates to resist and report any form of sexual harassment or abuse, and not to fall victim to exploitation.
Women must stand firm in their values, demonstrating strength, resilience, and self-respect. Let us continue to inspire change by being exemplary role models to other women and girls, promoting leadership that is grounded in integrity, respect, and accountability.

Nyamula Namayo Initiative coordinator Ms Patricia Kamanga condemns the alleged sexual harassment against female aspiring candidates as such acts undermine the principles of democracy. She calls on men to hold the hands of women so that together we deliver development for our country. She notes that sexual exploitation by men in politics on female politicians is one of the reasons Zambia has low numbers of female representation in parliament and councils. Currently female representation in the National Assembly is only around 15%. Some women decide to stay away from politics instead of facing such harassment yet others are discouraged to join politics by their husbands and families as they fear they maybe sexually exploited.

Under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, the political environment is favorable for women to participate as political violence has been eliminated. Women are now more free to join and participate in politics because the political violence we saw prior the 2021 elections is a thing of the past. We will therefore not allow such issues to draw us back hence we encourage our namayos to name and shame politicians who will make sexual advances towards them. Such men do not deserve to be leaders.

Women are encouraged to work hard on the ground so as to secure clean adoptions without compromising their moral values. If you work hard, your works will speak for you and you will not need any sexually transmitted favours. Women must be confident in their capabilities and unapologetically demand for their rightful seat at the leadership table.
