‘YOUR RESILIENCE OVER THE YEARS GAVE BIRTH TO PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT ‘- HH TELLS MAZABUKA RESIDENTS

October 22, 2024

MAZABUKA– President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed deep gratitude to the people of Mazabuka for electing the United Party for National Development (UPND) into office resulting into the peace and positive development agenda the country was enjoying.

President Hichilema acknowledged the people’s resilience through challenging times before the UPND came into power, emphasizing that their collective endurance has contributed significantly to the current political climate.

Addressing hundreds of Mazabuka residents that welcomed him at Nakambala approved school grounds this morning, the President reaffirmed the UPND's commitment to its campaign promises. "We have brought peace and free education," he stated proudly as he highlighted the government's achievement of increasing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to an impressive K36.1 million. This, he explained, is part of a broader effort to foster nationwide development.

The President further encouraged party members to remain proactive by engaging with all constituencies to grow the party's membership as he underscored that the UPND's primary goal is to work tirelessly to unify the country and ensure that peace and development is sustained.

He also announced that his government was in the process of distributing medical ambulances to all the 156 constituencies across the country with a view to improving primary healthcare services, an announcement which was met with widespread applause.

And Former Health Minister and PF Member of Parliament for Mansa, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, praised President Hichilema for his leadership, which has fostered unity and peace in the nation. Dr. Chilufya acknowledged the positive changes under the UPND government and expressed his support for continued collaboration across political lines.

The event also witnessed the joining into the UPND of more than 200 PF district, constituency and ward officials from within Mazabuka led by former district chairman Mabvuto Mutolwa as part of the party's ongoing mission to build an inclusive and united political landscape.

The president is scheduled to officiate at the 60th anniversary of the Zambia Sugar Company Limited.

UPND SAYS ITS VICTORY IN JUST ENDED WARD BY ELECTIONS MOTIVATING

By Patricia Mbewe

The ruling UPND says the winning of 8 out of 9 wards by elections held yesterday has given President Hakainde Hichilema and the party impetus to continue working amidst criticism from critics.

Out of the 9 wards in Nakonde’s Mualo and Luchinde wards, Sikongo’s Liumena and Mwenyi wards, Choma, Mufumbwe, Kawambwa and Kanchibiya, the UPND polled an overall 6,541 votes in 8 wards while one ward was won by an independent candidate.

Commenting on the election outcome, UPND National Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said the election results indicate that the people of Zambia have embraced President Hichilema’s polices such as free education and the expanded Constituency Development Fund.

Mr. Mweetwa further says the vote is an endorsement of the confidence that Zambians have in the leadership of president Hichilema and fortifies against the unnecessary attacks on the head of state by the opposition.

He adds that the UPND will not take for granted this victory but will use it to improve its numbers in coming by elections going into the 2026 general polls.

VEEP writes;
Fellow Citizens,

My message to the Women Movement delegation that paid courtesy call on our office this morning was direct on issues of drought and the impact of climate change:

We need water to have both food and electricity. The challenge we are facing today is that the changes in climate has affected our water patterns. Zambia needs normal flow of water currency: Too much of it will cause floods and in turn food crisis while less of it will continue to cause load shedding and food crisis.

We are currently struggling with the impact of lower water tables.

Your Government is not sleeping; apart from countrywide food distribution, we have embarked on school feeding programs aimed at supplementing nutritional values to school going children, especially in most drought affected areas.

We are aware that our efforts may not be fully satisfying to resolve the immediate impact of the crisis, but you can trust me when I say no Zambian will die of hunger under our watch.

W.K Mutale-Nalumango
Vice President of the Republic of Zambia.

CABINET APPROVES THE DRAFT 2023 ZAMBIA EDUCATION CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK.

Here are the highlights;

✅Cabinet has approved the Draft 2023 Zambia Education Curriculum Framework which proposes to restructure the education system.

✅This implies the commencement of Early Childhood Education at 3 years from 4 years, commencement of Primary Education at 6 from 7 years and increasing the duration of Secondary Education from 5 to 6 years.

✅This also paves way for the introduction of Advanced Levels at Secondary Education level; and reducing the duration of Degree courses from 4 to 3 years.

✅Other proposed measures include, reducing the eligibility entry age into Grade 1 from 7 to 6 years among other changes.

✅This is according to resolutions made by Cabinet at its 10th meeting on June 4, 2024.

✅At the same meeting, Cabinet also resolved to amend the Penal Code to strengthen Laws to prevent actions that incite, among others hatred, ridicule and division in the country.

✅The proposed change also includes the need to strengthen the punishment for the offence of discrimination and sectarianism as a deterrent to would-be offenders.

✅Cabinet further approved in principle the introduction of a Bill in Parliament to repeal the Defence Act.
