INSPECTOR General of police Kakoma Kanganja has warned of Stern action against all criminal minded people with acts of sabotage.
The IG in a statement yesterday also offered to give a reward of K 300,000 to anyone with information that may lead to the apprehension of any person or persons behind the clandestine activities of cutting ZESCO pylons.
“We are sternly warning all those criminal minded people who have resorted to acts of sabotage that the Police will not spare them when found wanting. We have intelligence information that some criminals are planning to deliberately cause havoc by destroying or vandalizing vital installations which include bridges, power stations, transmission lines, government buildings, communication facilities, to mention but a few,”Kanganja said.
He also urged members of the public to be alert and that further appealed to those with information about the criminals behind such illegal acts, to report to any nearest Police Station without delay.
“Furthermore, all those that may know people who are planning to engage in activities of sabotage should inform the police as soon as possible.
The Zambia Police Service is offering a reward of K 300, 000 to anyone who may have information that may lead to the apprehension of any person or persons behind these clandestine activities of cutting ZESCO pylons,” Kanganja said.
“We have intensified our operations to ensure that all vital installations are safeguarded. We will also be mounting Snap Security check points in which motor vehicles will be stopped randomly and subjected to thorough searches.”
He also called upon members of the public to cooperate with the law enforcement officers whenever called to do so.
“The security peace and stability of the nation is a collective responsibility of all citizens of this great nation,” said Kanganja.
